Even though I don't know the song's lyrics, I have heard it before. It should be something like "sto lat", sto meaning 100 and lat meaning years. In other words, they wished him to get very old (100 years). Last week I rented a car and drove to Szubin, just south of Bdygoszcz and found some Jarecki's there. then I drove east a short distance to Wolwark and found the Jarecki House there. If I would have continued east I would have arrived at Kycnia. I have written to them to see if they were the township that kept old records for that area. I know the Archives in Bdygoszcz has a few. oh, I have a Jadwiga Jarecki born about 1895 in the Szubin area...married someone named Bronislawa. thats it for now...joe jareck

All the census records list them as AL. There is a Alexander Matulewicz listed in the Philadelphia Ports passenger lists. I'm going to Philadelphia in May to the National Archives and look it up. I'm also going to Ellis Island in May.

As the result of wars, etc. Poland was partitioned in three and ruled by Russia, Germany and Austria. Poles living in these partitions were required to identify themselves as being Russian, German or Austrian. Reviewing the Ellis Island web site I did find two Alexander listed, but they were too old. you can find where (the name of the village) in Poland Alexander and Frances lived on their manifest or naturalization papers. The census records of 1910 and 1920 will tell you if they were naturalized,

Just in case something was wrong with it, here it is again. [email protected] Joseph and Marianna never went to USA. They stayed in the area of the parish of Debnica and both died there. Found their death records in the parish records. Joseph was the son of my great-great grandfathers brother. That seems very far away but I have discovered so much of the family and I am searching all the parishes arround course the name Swicichowski was not so common. Also it means that Joseph was the cousin first grade of my great-grandfather (who's name was also Joseph Swiecichowski) and he also was the cousin first grade of the brother and sister of my great-grandfather (Ignatz Swiecichowski + Anna Rolewska -maiden name Swiecichowski). Both Ignatz and Anna went to live in Chicago arround 1890 (haven't found Ignatz' passenger record yet but Annas). We would not be really blood-related, but through the marriage of Joseph to Marianna, Walenty became the brother in law of Joseph and therefore he is kind of related to all my Swiecichowskis who were from the area south of Gniezno (parish of Kedzierzyn - place Folwark, Wola and Trzuskolon). Since when have you been searching? Did you find out from where Walenty and Marianna and the other sisters were from originally - or was that the parish of Debnica??? Have you found the marriage record of Franciszek Niklas and Marianna??? I have found that Marianna was quiet a lot older than Joseph and she also died earlier. Well, you gave me the prove that I have found the death record of Marrianna first husband Franciscus. I have him dead as from 21. August 1870. I also found Agnes brith as from 18. March 1872. They also had a son called Stanislaus, born 20. Dec 1873 but he died young on 25. July 1884. Marianna died 9. June 1903. The death record gives the name of her parents as Voitechus Galazka and Agnes. Joseph died in Debnica on 16. November 1934 - so he became quiet old. Its interesting that your grandfather also went to live in Chicago - where abouts??? Ignatz Swiecichowski and his sister Anna Rolewska - later Luczak - lived in South Chicago arround Houston Avenue. Lets stay in contact and see if we can exchange more dates. Heide

Since you didn't reply, I will use the board again. Found my Family Group sheet for Marianna Galezewska Niklas, a widow, who married Joseph Swiecichowski on 28 May 1871. They had a daughter, Agnes, on 18 March 1872 in Dembnica. Marianna had four children that I can locate with Franciszek Niklas whom she brought to the marriage with Joseph. Marianna was the sister of Walenty. I found her three sisters, Antonina, Victoria and Catherine, my grandfather's aunts, in Buffalo, NY. Did Marianna go to Buffalo also? My grandfather, Lawrence, son of Walenty, went to Chicago. How are we related? Would love to hear from you. Armela
