My John Szymaniak married Victoria Matuszak at All Saints church on September 2, 1899. The Illinois database has it incorrectly listed as 10/10/1899, which is the month and day of John's birthdate,in 1876 by my records. Did Stanley & Marianne change their name to Simmons or did their children? I am interested in sharing family info. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Bronson has a population of about 2500. Branch County is the easternmost county in Michigan that shares a southern border with Indiana. Some Polish surnames have been altered there... Adamski>Adams, Neveroski>Ross, Kaniewski>Cunningham, Smolka>Smoker, Bogacz>Bogart (don't ask anyone in Bronson with the surname Bogart whether he is related to the film actor Humphrey Bogart; he probably isn't)... Zielinski>Green (translation)... in efforts to avoid confusing English speakers who had difficulty in spelling and pronouncing Polish surnames. At least three families adopted the Irish surnames Gibson, Lynch, and Kelly. Not all persons with those surnames are of Polish origin, of course. Some Polish immigrants apparently got jobs in the heavy industries near Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, and Chicago, saved their money, and bought farms near Bronson, Michigan. The town has one of the highest concentrations of Polish-Americans in the United States and even has an annual week called "Polish Festival Days". I'm related to several of these and other families through marriages of family members. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I could not reply on the forum, as I do not remember the loging. Francisca Humpa and Stanislaus Bielarz 's marriage can be found at http://gw.geneanet.org/kozmin Their son Franciszek was born on the 18 X 1894 in Bialydwor (parish Kozmin). Galew belongs to the parish in Walkow. However, I do not think you will find there any Humpa , at least before 1840. I believe the surname Humpa (Hompa) was present in the parish of Borzeciczki near Kozmin Wielkopolski. Kind regards Christian Orpel
