There's a definite similarity between the woman on the left (possibly your ggrandmother) and Ignatius on the right. There's no likeness with the other two. There wasn't any writing on the back. I doubt the woman in front could be their mother as I don't think she was ever in the states, do you? So you noticed that Ignatius was the enumerator on the 1910 census? I'm sure that's why the name was spelled correctly! Have you learned anything about Konstantine? I haven't had much luck in locating him. I see there are several Wujczyk's in the Chicago area but they don't seem to be directly related. Thanks for your reply. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm fairly certain the girl on the left is my ggrandmother, Martha Wujczyk. The woman in front looks a lot like Marcianna Doppke, Martha's mother in law. If that's the case, the man in the center would likely be my ggrandfather, Joseph Doppke. That could be their wedding picture (married in Detroit 1898). Joseph's father was alive at the time so he is missing. The other possibility is that it's Ignatius, Konstantine, Martha and their mother Barbara Wujczyk. That fits nicely, but the woman in front looks almost identical to a photo of my gggrandmother. I don't suppose there's any writing on the back? Another thing I just noticed - the census taker for the 1910 census that included Ignatius Wujczyk was Ignatius F Wujczyk. No wonder his name is spelled correctly on it. I don't know who the other people are, but I know it's not his wife. Ignatius was an organist and later a bank manager according to the census (and family memories) He is listed as the census taker in 1910 in Wyandotte, Michigan. In later years, he was an organist at a Catholic Church in Detroit. I don't know if this could be the brother you mentioned but of course, he came to the USA. I was told Martha's parents were Simon Wujczyk and Barbara Leder, but I have no written record. Simon died in Poland, not sure about Barbara. Martha and her brothers came over togther. I heard their house burned down in Poland and they lost everything, so later when salesmen would come around selling fire insurance, Martha bought a policy from every one. Supposedly they had a brother who had a very good job at a church in Poland (sexton or organist?) and he stayed there. I would love to see a copy of that picture. Catherine (Sobczak) Mierzwinski, Constance's daughter, had 4 boys. The oldest, Chester was born 1917 & died 1924, I'm not sure of what cause. The oldest child, Mary, was born in Poland, not in the US. I have that info from the ship's manifest. I only remember seeing Constance's name in my grandfather's funeral book. So, that would be consistent with your gggrandfather dying prior to 1946. I may have a picture of Constance. There are several family shots taken in the 40's and I remember one or two of her. I will try to find them and ask my mother. Please have patience as my parents are breaking up their household and a lot of things are in boxes so I will have to search. Please email me at [email protected] If we exchange emails I will be able to send the pictures when found and scanned. I am familiar with St. Adalberts. And, I know the section in which your ggg are probably buried. When time allows, I will attempt to find the location and perhaps get a picture of the headstone. My mother remembers your gggrandmother as owning a duplex on 10th St. She also remembers her keeping the keys to her house and the rented flat under her skirt. She always wore dresses and these had no pockets. There is a man who appears in several pictures during WWII who at that time was in his 20's. Did you have a family member who was in the Navy in WWII? I will see if my mother remember's his name. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Michael & Constance Sobczak would have been my GGGrandparents. They did live on 10th street, according to their burial records. Michael did die before Jan, 1940, so if he is in your grandfathers book, I would be interested in the information. Constance died in 1955. Michael & Constance along with other relatives of theirs are buried at St Adelberts Cemetary in Milwaukee. Constance & Michael came from Poland in 1913 with their 10 children. Their daughter, Catherine, was my GGrandmother. Sometime after her husband (Ignacy Mierzwinski) died in 1939 Catherine was living next door to Constance on 10th street. If you find out any other information or if your mother might have any old photos, etc, I would be very interested. I do not know if Michael & Jan were from the same town. I don't know anything about them before they came to the US unfortunately. The census records say they were from Posen. So the better way to pinpoint the location may be by going though the Rzegocin search, which yields far less results. However, the two Rzegocin and the one Rzegocina were not in Wielkopolski (or the former Prussian province of Posen). What I found within the former Posen province is a place called Zegocin, which the Poznan marriage project also lists as Rzegocin (http://bindweed.man.poznan.pl/posen/data/mrecords.php#639). Unfortunately, this parish is not indexed yet for the Poznan project (http://bindweed.man.poznan.pl/posen/project.php). The good thing though is that Ostrow Wielkopolski (Ostrowo) is not too far South of Zegocin (check maps http://bindweed.man.poznan.pl/posen/region.php?region=9 and http://bindweed.man.poznan.pl/posen/region.php?region=8). For microfilms from these two places go to http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp and search for Zegocin (choose the one with Pleszew) and search for Ostrow and choose "Ostrów Wielkopolski (Ostrów Wielkopolski)". I don't know if those are the places you are looking for, but maybe it is a start? Good luck! Andre Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
