They escaped from behind the iron curtain in as close as I can figure 1905, I can find no records of their arrival in the u.s.a. They are listed on the 1920 and 1930 census, they had 9 children: Edmund, John, Helen, Clemens, Cazimer, Virgina, Teresa, Daniel and Rita. Daniel is the only surviving and he is listed in the Toledo phone book. Please let me know if you have any other info to add to what I have.

I found a birth record for Thomas: Birth/baptism record, LDS microfilm 1898739, item 3, page 16 1836 November, date of birth 20, date of baptism 21, house 30, Leki Dolne Thomas, Catholic, son, legitimate Father: Joseph Podraza, son of Andreas Mother: Marianna, daughter of Stanislaus Galus Godparents: Johannes Pieczonka, Catharina wife of Johannes Podraza There is more to be found, but I didn't have much time today. I am interested in finding more about Marianna GALUS, daughter of Stanislaus to see if she is connected to my GALUS family, and I will look for her birth record when I have a chance. If you have a Family History Center close to you, I would suggest ordering microfilms 1898738 and 1898739 to pursue these lines further. If you live in or close to Omaha Nebraska, I have these films on permanent loan at the Mormon Church Family History Center at 110th and Martha Streets. These reels are the church records for Leki Gorne and Leki Dolne that go back to the late 1700's. One thing I noticed - Marianna SKORUPA, daughter of Adam SKORUPA and Apollonia nee KOTLARZ, is a sister of Victoria SKORUPA who married Joseph CZAPLA - Joseph and Victoria immigrated to Nebraska. I know that I was named after her, and a sailing vessel which ran aground in the Skaggerak circa 1920 - it was carrying salt. As a child I was told that this was the reason the sea was salty! I do not know if any of this fits in with anyone here - I know that my father had a an aunt in the States - she was rather well off, no children - but I do not know her, and I do not know if she is still alive - if she is I have no intention of encroaching upon her life now. I would be interested if there is anyone else who is connected with this family - also the other information I have is that on the Swedish side Andresson - one strand moved to Estonia - my father was born in Parnuu <sp> and I know that most recently - the family was involved with the ferry disaster - the Estonia in the Baltic. I believe that the captain was Arvo Andresson and he left behind a wife Riita and I do not know how many children.
> My Kubasiak line came from Czechloslovakia in 1956, > Alexander Kubasiak to Milwaukee, WI. Living > relatives in Slovakia and I am trying to connect the > dots. > It would help if you tell us what kind of research you have done already so that those giving advice dont take the time to tell you to do something when you have already tried that avenue of research and were unsuccessful. You should also give us as much information about your family as you know. For example, their names, dates of birth/death, where they came from, where they lived in the U.S., etc. If you are just starting your research, then I have a few suggestions to get you started. There are many genealogy sites on the web that give advice on genealogical research. This list is for those researching in a particular area of Poland, and it sounds like your research is going to be in Czech-Slovak areas. However, the basics of genealogy research are the same regardless of nationality. This is a link to the getting started suggestions of the PGSA: http://www.pgsa.org/DearResearcher.htm. Another web site with a lot of useful information is Cindi's List: http://www.cyndislist.com. Because I'm focused on Polish genealogy, I recommend that new researchers either purchase or borrow from a library a book titled Polish Roots written by Rosemary Chorzempa. Its available from any major bookstore. Join a genealogy society. It is good to join one that is local, even if it is not a specific ethnic organization, so you can attend meetings where you can ask questions and learn from others. The PGSA is located in Chicago, but has 2,000 members worldwide, so although the meetings and annual conference are in Chicago, the PGSA tries to provide research tools and information that can be available to all of our members through the web site and the quarterly magazine, Rodziny. There is a Czech-Slovak society in Chicago: http://www.csagsi.org/. I hope this helps. Good luck in your research! Cynthia PGSA Chicago __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
