I am the GGrandniece of a Viola Smalara (nee Murdock), who is the daughter of Jacob and Mary Murdock. Viola married Michael Smalara who was born abt 1849 in Austria/Poland. They lived in Allegheny County PA. Based on what I have found up to this point, it appears that Jacob died between 1920 and 1930. Michael and Viola had 7 children. Victoria, Joseph, Stella, Mary, Theodore, Alfred and Thomas. Do not have much more at this time..... Hope this helps... Laura

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hdC.2ACI/704.2 Message Board Post: Hi, I'm researching the Kiszkowo and Slawno parish films too. In fact, I remember seeing the name Walkowiak. If you've already tried the Kiszkowo and Slawno baptism records, I might suggest trying Dabrowka Koscielna parish. My Piotrowiak's bounced around a lot between several cities in these three parishes. Just a thought. I also wanted to ask about the surname Werner that you posted, since I have Werner ancestors from the area around Slawno. According to the records, they were not Catholic and from the name, they seem to be German, so I was wondering if you've had any luck with that family?

    1. Question regarding Immigration/name changes/confusion

    3. I just received boarder crossing(Halifax)information today. The family(ggrandmother and children) came over with the surname Rossa(wife and children,1907). They state they are to meet their husband/father in Milwaukee but have his name as Jan Rosianski(Jan Rossa was my ggrandfather already here in Milwaukee). From baptismal records of the children I have from Poland, the surname was Rossa. Family legend has it he was running away from conscription in the Russian army. Also my grandfather had told me our name was changed. Some what confused here. Could I assume they were protecting his identity? Therefore verifying family lore? Any ideas out there? John Rossa from Milwaukee

Surnames: Elftman, Elftmann, Ludtke, Schoning, Schaar Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hdC.2ACI/58.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Dear Clark: Hi. My branch of the family came to the US in 1873. Two brothers, sons of August & Rosina Denzin Elftman, August Jr. and Ludwig, both settled in Dunn County, Wisconsin. The only child that I am aware stayed in Germany from this couple is their daughter, Bertha, who married a Ludtke. Mr. Ludtke may have died sometime around WWI. The Ludtke's had a daughter who married a Schoning and they had a daughter Imgard who married a Hans or Heinz Schaar. This couple had a son Oscar. Oscar would have been about 3 or 4 years of age during WWII. As far as we can tell, the family settled in the Dusseldorf area after being expelled from their homes at the end of WWII. No one has had any contact with anyone in Germany for many years now and I would love to find family there. Hope we can find a connection. Debbie Barrett
