So Switala meant literally "one associated with dawn, light; one always shining; one who typifies brightness." There is no connection with any German word, except perhaps a remote one with words coming from the same original Indo-European root. Cordially, Wladyslaw

Gottleib and Johann probably left other brothers and sisters behind in Poland. We don't have any names, but it is very likely that there are descendants of this family still living in the area. We are hoping to visit Poland this year and would like to find out more.

His Paternal Grandparents came to Erie PA. The names were Kazimierz Kwitowski and Anna (Antonina) Kwitowska. He came in 1910 and she came with a child in 1912. Both records are on the ellis island site. Both are misspelled and her son is listed as a girl. My mother-in-law says her husband's parents used to go to Buffalo NY to see relatives. I'm hoping you can direct my search for more information. Most of my husband's father's relatives are dead and I have little to help me trace the line. Kazimierz's death certificate, listed as Casimir, says his father's name was Andrew. Please e-mail to Mary Jean Kwitowski at MPeanut123@msn.com. We just changed our internet provider. Thanks

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hdC.2ACI/667.1 Message Board Post: Hi, I just began researching my husband's side of the family. His grandfather came from Poland in 1910 to Erie PA. His name was Kazimierz Kwitowski. He had a brother who also come to Erie. I don't have the Polish spelling but his English name was Walter. My mother-in-law recently told me that her in-laws used to visit relatives in Buffalo NY. I'm wondering if there are cousins still there. How did you get the name of the town you are searching? All his death certificate says is Poland. It gives his father's name as ANDREW. On the LDS site I found Andrew Kwitowski born in 1848. That would be in the correct range. However the maiden name of Andrew's wife is different on that site. On the death certificate no 1st name is given and the last name is listed as Pojankoski. It looks like the Andrew on the LDS site had children who went to Erie County NY but it doesn't mention any going to Erie, PA. The account is in my husband's name but I'm the searcher. Please e-mail me at MPeanut123@msn.com if you think there is any connection. Thanks. Mary Jean Kwitowski
