LOL This is like finding a needle in a haystack for me. Even my MIL has always been in the dark as to the family and it's ties...so when I called her to tell her about your post reply...she was even excited. And it's hard to excite an 80 yr. old person. ;) Let's start with...1.) is your Peter's name pronounced the way I typed? "Ah-ras-im" I find it weird that one pronounced it one way and the other family another way. Maybe that's why it surprised my MIL that the two families were connected. 2.) Do you know what/if...the name is originally ARASIM? Or is it changed from something else?? I can give you dates/etc of this line of the family...but like I said, I only know about the kids...not much about the parents except names/birth dates/death dates, etc. SO any and all info on ANY connections is like icing on my genealogy cake! :) YES, yes...let's keep talking and trying to link all these people together...it would be such a waste to not know more about them and their lives. I have never been to Ironwood...husband has as a kid...but that was the last time. I did know during my years of marriage at least Joe, Elizabeth (known also as Tassa)...but even though Thomas (Tommy) is still living (in Ironwood)...I never have met him. And I can tell you that none of these girls had kids, and of the boys, none had sons to carry the name except John...my FIL...and he had my husband, Jim. We in turn have two sons (and a daughter) to carry on the line. We haven't lived in MI in over 23 yrs (after college)...but my MIL and SIL still live in MI..and we do go back. Actually just came back from taking our oldest son to college there (he opted to return to the midwest for it's friendlier people). I'm excited to make a connection.....so hang in there...we both might get some great info together. Kelley

    2. Hi Vince, I happen to know that my cousin, Mary Ann's maternal grandmother's family are Arasim's (She married a Cwalinski) who came from the Russian Poland area. They live in Paxinos, PA. -----Original Message----- From: Vince Zotkiewicz [mailto:vinzot@worldnet.att.net] Sent: Monday, August 30, 2004 9:29 PM To: POL-PODLASKIE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [POL-PODLASKIE] Re: ARASIM Hi, I am also searching the Arasim name. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RdC.2ACI/485.5.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Amazing things happen when people compare notes and do a little digging. This letter will be posted at the Podlaskie mail list through Podlaskie message board. Mike and I started writing each other because of a message I posted on the Ancestry.com Podlaskie Message Board back in June of this year. Mike was just beginning to research on his great grandfather Maciej (Matthew) and Rozalia (Rose) nee Siederska Przemielewski. Since we began writing, we have learned from ship manifests for them that they came from a tiny village named Matlak, in the gmina and parish of Bakalarzewo, province of Podlaskie. They came to the US in 1899. My grandfather Franciszek Szwarc was born in 1890 in another tiny village only 1.8 miles from Matlak. He was born in Garbas, also in the parish of Bakalarzewo. His Godparents were Wojciech Przemielewski and Rozalia Przemielewska. No one in my family, as this time, has been able to identify Rozalia. However, we do know that Wojciech was the brother of his mother, Antonina nee Przemielewska Szwarc. I do not yet know who the wife of Wojciech was. Maybe she was also a Rozalia. If she was not, maybe this Rozalia was his Godmother. We will know as we continue to search records in Poland. This weekend I spoke to Ken Stobnicki, another researcher working on his Przemielewski family. Mike's and Ken's great grandfathers were from Matlak, and both settled in Buffalo, NY. Today no one knows the relationship of Jan Przemielewski and Franciszka nee Wasielewska Przemielewska, with Maciej's family of Buffalo. We feel they were either brothers or cousins. Soon we hope to know their relationship. When I spoke to Ken Stobnicki, he told me that his aunt had at memorial card from the funeral of Maciej Przemielewski. Another point of irony in the Przemielewski quest: On the Internet there is a photo of a priest named Father Benedict Przemielewski. He was the pastor of St. Casimir's in Baltimore, Maryland. I've posted his photo on my family website because of how much he looked like my grandfather and my father. Father Ben was the son of Jan and Franciszka Przemielewski. He was also born in Matlak. He was two years younger than my grandfather and their families lived only 1.8 from each other. There is not doubt we are related. Soon we hope to know how. Sometimes when we search, we like we are the lone eagles out there searching for clues, and hoping to find cousins who are also interested in learning about their family. There are times when we think no one cares. I have been blessed with two possible cousins researching my Prezmielewski family. I have found other cousins researching on my grandmother's side of the family, but these are the first on my grandfather's side ... and these two were found in a 2 month span. This is remarkable. I hope everyone who reads this letter understands that they should not give up. You will find cousins or they will find you. Keep searching. Keep posting your names on the different message boards and mail lists. You never know which one a cousin will check. Good luck to everyone. Tina Ellis

Actually your grandmother is from the "other" Arasim family that was in Ironwood, MI. There were two Arasim families at the same time living in Ironwood back then...each had at least a Stephanie and even a John. Small world. I can't offhand remember which street your grandmother grew up on ...but it was at one time only a couple doors down from the Arasim family I am researching. I know this only by finding the phone directory records(1938 & 1947, yours on Curry and mine on Mansfield at those times) and checking ss#'s from back then...plus my MIL remembers the other family during her early marriage years of visiting her inlaws. She told me that your Arasim, was pronounced such as "Ah-ras-im"....where my inlaws pronounced theirs "Air-a-sim". But between my MIL and I, we suspect there might be some connection between the two families prior to coming to America...or at least the name variation was changed to be similiar. My line had Frank (perhaps Frances) and Apolonia (Paula/Pola) as the parents. And nine kids: Stephanie (1897), Aloysius John (A.J. 1901), Bertha (1905), Joseph (1908), Elizabeth (1910), Bernice (1913), Margaret (Maggie 1916), John Leo (my connection, Jack 1918) and Thomas (1920-only living left). Both families had Joes, Stephanies, and Johns...and the Johns even were born the same year, but mine is older by several months. A lot of the kids from both families grew up to be teachers or work in the school system. I'm just trying to figure out where Frank/Paula both came from for sure..and what the original name base is. I know the "stories", but need the facts of immigration, etc. That's where I'm at on my searches...awaiting death certs for clues. Kelley

I recently received the Social Security Application for Bronislaw Filipowicz, on which he states that he was born in Roziszcze, Poland, on 15 July 1889. The closest spelling to that town that I've found is what is now called Rozhyshche, formerly Rozyszcze, Poland. Bronislaw was the son of Andrej Filipowicz and Anna Okoniewski. In about 1912 he came to America and eventually settled in Hamtramck, Michigan. But I'm puzzled because it seems that many people who lived in that town were Lutherans. I believe that Andrej and Anna were Roman Catholic or perhaps Greek Catholic. Do you know much about this particular town or of any Filipowicz families who lived near there? Was there a Catholic parish there also?

Start with the US and then try to work your way back. Did Stanislaus marry in the US after he arrived? He would have had to provide proof of baptism to the church in the US that he married in, if he was Catholic. I don't know what other religions require. Check the US Censuses. Was he naturalized, did he become a citizen? If you don't have access to the US Census, if you will email information on Stanislaus to me privately I will see what I can find. Where did he live in the US? If he was already married when he arrived in the US, and there were children born here, I'm sure the couple would have had to provide proof of baptism and marriage to their new church if they were Catholic. There is no "V" in the Polish alphabet. Vila Nova would not be a correct village name if he was from Poland. Possibly Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, etc, but not Poland. If you are sure the family was from Podlaskie province, there is a Wilanowo that is in Podlaskie province that is near the Belarus border. Wilanowo (pronounced Vilanovo). If you run a search on the Shtetlseeker at Jewish Gen for Vila Nova, you will get several possibilities in several countries. The URL for the Shtetlseeker is http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm You can also run a search on www.pilot.pl Both have maps available. Possible records in the US that might have information are church records, Alien Registration records, naturalization records, Social Security records, retirement records, marriage records, birth certificates on children born in the US, death certificate, ship manifest, and obituaries. If you can find out "for sure" where Stanislaus was born, you can check the LDS website to see if microfilmed records are available. I'm at indymomma@aol.com if you need to contact me.
