It is possible that Cembrowicz and Zambrowicz are the same, though I am not a linguist. My great-grandmother was Julia Arasim, who married a Zambrowicz. Their daughter, Alexandra Zambrowicz, was my paternal grandmother. Our Zambowicz family came from Augustow, in present day Northeastern Poland, in what was the gubernia of Suwalki of Congress Poland. My paternal grandfather was from Suwalki. Note that there is a town of Zambrow not far from Augustow, though I believe in Lomza "gubernia" (a Russian term for district of the Kingdom of Poland/Congress Poland). Best, Paul Sturgul

Sorry about the mix up. However, I'm still wondering if anyone knows anything about the Jazwinskis in Lomza...but I'm not sure there's much to find out about them in Lomza? Someone might however know of a Jan Jazwinski who had a pharmacy in Lomza? Take care, Sincerely Celina

I have a Joseph Zambrowicz with wife Bronslawa(Burnice). 1910-1930 census's, Milwaukee. Imigrated abt 1900. Their oldest son, Alexander was born in Michigan abt 1902. 6 other children were bn in Milw. Wis. My interest in this family is that they lived in the same house as my GGrandparents, Rossa's, 1920. Now my ggrandmother had relation with the surname Cembrowicz, I'm wondering if the Zambrowicz/Cembrowicz are 1 in the same. The "C" in Cembrowicz is the sound "TS". Question is, are you familiar with this Joseph Zambrowicz family and have you seen the Zambrowicz name spelled differently? John from Waukesha

What I know about them so far is that my greatgrandmother was named Elzbieta Jazwinska (born around 1884 in Nur I think) and her father's name was Piotr Jazwinski. I know that her family was from Nur and moved to Lomza, I don't know exactly when, I'm afraid. I've been told Elzbieta's older brother Jan Jazwinski moved to Lomza first, where he had a pharmacy and that he later brought his sister there, as he knew a widower who wanted to get married again. The widower's name was Jan Kotnarowski. I know Elzbieta and Jan had a son called Wlodzimierz (my grandad) in 1913. Does anyone know anything about them? Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Celina
Hi Bobbi, Do you know where Anna Grajewska and Franciszek Chrapowicz got married or where they were born? It would help you much to look for members of your family if you knew that. The years you want records for are missing, but if they can find marriage records on them, that will give the parents names. Death records sometimes have the parents names on them. Once you get that information, you can still trace back in time for your family tree. I had a situation, which helped me learn who my 5th great grandparents were. My 4th great grandmother passed away. The witnesses, who reported her death were her husband (my 4th great grandather and one of her many brothers. That death record die not give her parents names, but this one brother and another one were witnesses for the death of another brother. On that death record it gave their parents names. Later I found my 5th great grandmother's death record. She died in 1813 and was 80 years old, meaning she was born about 1733. I don't know how far you are planning on taking your research, but thought I tell you this so you can see there is still hope that you may be able to further your research. Tina Ellis
Hi All, I'm searching for members of the Chrapowicz and Grajewski families. There do not seem to be very many Chrapowicz in Poland, but they seem to be around the Lomza area. Somehow there are Trzaska family relations too. They lived around Elk. Anna Grajewska Chrapowicz married Franciszek Chrapowicz. They were both still alive in 1914. My grandfather was their son: Jan Chrapowicz They also had a daughter: Franciszka Chrapowicz who came to the US in 1913. I believe they had a son: Konstancy Chrapowicz who was a soldier and might have died at Russian hands. Any info would be a great help. Hi All, I'm new to this list. I am on several other Polish genealogy lists, but I hope this one will help my search. I am trying to find records (and living family) of my grandfather, Jan Chrapowicz. He wrote to his father and received letters from home in the 19teens: His father: Franciszek Chrapowicz Kramarzewo Gm: Radzilow Pow: Szczuczyn Gub: Lomza What Catholic parish served this village? What diocese oversees this area now? Where could I write for records? Nothing comes up on the FHC familysearch for this town. Thank you in advance for any help Bobbi McCaffrey St. Charles, IL
