I been doing family research on the Szolis line for two years. I've collected quite a bit. I have plans for a Szolis book/web site by November and hope to send it out to the Szolis' for Christmas. I did have you name in my Szolis binder. I believe I spoke to you father and have a picture of you too. Is he a photographer? I think it's you at least. I do not have you connected to my family tree program yet. Could you please email me at Stuckduck2002@aol.com and let me know who you father is, so I can add you to my family tree and have you in the Szolis book. Here is just a small web page a started about ayear and a half ago. http://www.geocities.com/smoorequilts/Szolis.html It has a little about the Szolis family. If you email me I can answer any question you have. I am daughter to Suzan Szolis, daughter to Walter Szolis, son of John Peter Szolis. John Peter Szolis is the one who's photo is at this web site. I look forward to hearing from you. I'm sure we can learn more about the Szolis' from each other. Cynthia

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AdC.2ACE/1084.1.1.1 Message Board Post: It does look like the manifest says they're from Russia, but if you look closely, you can see the word Austria written under the stamp that says "CIT. DISCH. ON PIER" in the Nationality column. By the way, if I understand that notation correctly, it means that the children did not require processing through immigration because they were US Citizens. At that time (before 1922), when the husband/father became a citizen of the USA, the wife and minor children were automatically granted citizenship through him - whether or not they had ever set foot in the country. If your aren't aware of this service, you can contact the Library of Congress and have them send you a copy of a historical map with your town(s) of interest on them. I have several for my ancestral towns, and they're pretty detailed. You can see roads and symbols for houses/buildings on the map. Visit this webpage: http://www.loc.gov/rr/askalib/ask-geogmap.html and click on the Ask a Librarian link. You'll be taken to an online form. Just fill in the information, tell them you want to obtain a photocopy of a map of Kolaczyce, Poland from whatever time frame you wish and provide them with the geographic coordinates - 49°49' 21°26'. They will send you a photocopy of whatever historic map they have that is closest to the year you specify. It's an invaluable resource for historical research, and as far as I know the service is absolutely free. BTW, no, I'm not from Dallas. It's my surname. :-) Regards, MJ

He was traveling with his sister, Antonina, age 9, same info given as brother. Currently, there is one town named Kolaczyce in Poland. It is in the province of (wojewodstwo) Podkarpackie. It's in the southeastern part of the country, an area that would've been under Austrian rule during the occupied years (1792-1920). Kolaczyce is a few hundred kilometers south of Warsaw. Regards, MJ

    3. This site has some a good listing of city names, some older that I've been able to find towns that don't exist anymore. The link is into towns that start with KOLA and you can take a look in there. Warsaw is at 52.25 Lat 21 Long and there are a few towns around 52 Lat. http://www.fallingrain.com/world/PL/a/K/o/l/a/ . One thing to keep in mind, if you know any Polish or have friends/family who do - Ellis Island more often than not butchered the names. For example, my Great Grandpa came from a town around Warsawa called 'Nidzgora' and the folks at Ellis Island spelled it 'Nicgora' - the C in place of DZ resulted in me searching for the wrong place for a long time until I found the fallingrain web site. There is a town called 'Kolaczyce' which depending on how you slur it ... Could sound like your Kolacryce. - Jeff -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of deible@sbcglobal.net Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2006 11:00 PM To: POL-MAZOWIECKIE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Pol-Maz] Looking for town listed on passenger list for Walter Stec from Ellis Is. website This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
