I am new to the list, and am researching Schoenheide, Heideman and Ludtke families. I am hoping that someone can clear up something that is confusing to me. I was recently at the LDS library in Salt Lake City, and I found church records from Carnitz, Regenwalde, Pommern, and also Carnitz, Greifenberg, Pommern. Are these two different places, or did districts change? Any information will be much appreciated! Joanne

This was on another list. I checked it out, and it is true. Beware of personal web pages that may look suspicious (and watch out for places like WORLD FAMILY TREE and other places on the internet that might be taken in by this fake genealogy information. --Glenn Gohr, List Manager From: Pat Reply-To: SWAIN-L@rootsweb.com To: SWAIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SWAIN] Bogus Genealogy program Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2005 09:58:49 -0800 (PST) Read about this new program that creates a fake family to put online in order to make money. Hi Glenn, Thanks for the info on this problem. This is all researchers need is people inventing info for profit. There is plenty of accidently wrong info out there as is. Just shows you that you have to check everything you find against sources Thanks again Kevin >This was on another list. I checked it out, and it is true. Here are some Pommern sites that I found interesting. Pommern Das Land am Meer: http://www.hinterpommern.de Landkarten von Pommern: http://www.hinterpommern.de/Karten/ Pommern in 1913: http://www.hinterpommern.de/Karten/Pommern/kreise1913.html Pommern in 1939 (shows various provinces): http://www.hinterpommern.de/Karten/Pommern/kreise1939.html --Glenn Gohr archives_guy@hotmail.com
Gertrude "Trudy" Heuer: gheuer@cfl.rr.com asked me to notify everyone of her web site. She has transcribed a lot of vital records from Karnice which pertain to the Heuer family and other families of the area. There are some Wegners on her site as well. She also has recently completed a book on the Heuer family that originated in the Karnitz and Neides area of Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern, Prussia. She has modern-day photos taken of the area, and lots of different records on various families and neighboring villages are on her web site: http://www.heuerfamily.com/ --Glenn Gohr archives_guy@hotmail.com

What it does give you is info about: - map coordinates for the place in question - equivalent Polish name of the place - some details about province and parish of location As noted in my previous posting, the page which gives the details and which I have bookmarked is http://www.kartenmeister.com Mr. Krickhahn sells detail maps of these areas. A competitive source is http://www.genealogyunlimited.com but this latter one does not have the index resources on line.
I would appreciate if any Karnitz area researcher would be on the lookout for either of these two marriages -- or children from such marriages: ***** WEG(E)NER married ZENKE about 1832 ***** ***** WEG(E)NER married ROMIG (ROMICH) about 1845 **** ==================================================================== IGNORE the following if in a hurry. Just try to remember the above! :>)) The groom in both cases would be: Wilhelm (or perhaps Julius Friedrich Wilhelm) Weg(e)ner. His two wives were Hannah Marie Zenke, and Caroline Romig / Romich (the latter wife born Jan 26, 1819 near Schivelbein). The second wife and children (and their families) emigrated from villages of Schlönwitz / Panzerin (5 miles south of Schivelbein) [although I don't think they were originally from these villages] to Wisconsin over the 1867-1869 period, but records to not exist for these villages, so I have been reduced to randomly looking at whatever records exist. Thanks for any help, Andy Wegner, Winneconne, Wisconsin See our Wegner/Eiting Genealogy Website: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~wegner/
Here is a good web site (some is in German) for East Prussian Genealogical Research, including former German localities east of the Oder and Neisse Rivers. It includes some family trees, maps, parishes, and a number of other resources and links. The East Prussian Genealogy Website http://www.paetzel.info --Glenn Gohr archives_guy@hotmail.com
