After several months absence, I have returned to the list. I am Freeman Mendell. My grandmother was Sadie Frances Poff, daughter of Andrew James Poff, son of George Poff. I have discovered, due to some folks on this list, that Andrew James fought on both sides of the Civil War. He started out as a Confederate and finished as a Yankee. He was born in Virginia but was in Clinton, Tennessee when he joined the Union Army. I have sent off to NARA for his wife's Union Army pension application. I sent it off in June and have not heard anything yet. I understand that NARA is not sending anything out right now. Anyone who has information or can offer advice, please do so.
