I'm doing research on the Canard family, and Hannah Alberta Canard married Monroe Franklin Poff in 1907. They moved from stone Co., AR to Mississippi Co., AR. If anyone's doing research on this family, I'd like to share info. Thanks, Glenda

For those of you who are researching the Poff family of Northumberland County PA, I have some interesting info. I found Peter Pfaff in the 1850 census in Northumberland County: Peter Pfaff 41 Sarah.......39 Joseph......16 George......11 Peter........8 Jacob........6 Sarah........4 Savilla......1 Twin John.........1 Twin (My ancestor) I was happy to find this because I knew that Peter, Joseph, and John were brothers, but I could not find evidence of their parents. I suspected that their father was Peter...now I know! Then I found that Peter (the son) listed his birth place as New Jersey in the 1920 Census. Until I read this, I suspected that we were connected to the York County Poff's and I concentrated my search in that direction. Pointed in a new direction, I found records of a Pfaff family in Northampton County, PA, which borders New Jersey. >From Salem Lutheran and Reformed Congregations, Moore Township, Northampton County, PA 1774-1840: Peter Pfaff b. 13 June 1809 bapt. 30 July 1809 Parents: Henrich and Magdalena I believe that this is the birth record of Peter Pfaff (41 years old in the 1850 census) further research will either prove or disprove this. Just a little note of interest-- Henrich and Magdalena Pfaff were the parents of a set of twins born in 1794. Peter and Sarah Pfaff were the parents of a set of twins born in 1848. The gradaughter of John (one of those twins) was Sadie Irene Poff (my grandmother). She was the mother of three sets of twins! Lonnie __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Clipping of the Day From the "Alton Telegraph and Democratic Review," 26 January 1849, Page 3: A colored woman named Nancy, the property of a gentleman in Upper Marlborough, Md., recently died at the advanced age of 122 years. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ice Machine.---The Cincinnati Gazette says, that an ingenious mechanic of that city has constructed and put into successful operation a machine for the manufacture of ice. By means of this machine, such a degree of cold can be obtained as to form ice instantly, and which can be afforded at a cheaper rate than it is now sold at. The machine can be used in any climate---is cheap, and can be kept in order. The patentee values it at half a million of dollars.---State Reg.
Clipping of the Day From the "New York Times," 10 May 1860, page 4: Minor Topics --- An abreviation [sic] not to be found in the books, is to be found on a tombstone in Dunkirk. The mourners intended to put an old aunt to sleep with the customary phrase, "Let her rest in peace," but the space on the stone gave out at the close of the word "her." The ready-witted sculptor, however, inserted the initials, and now the dear old lady sleeps beneath the laconic, but inelegant epitaph: "Let her r i p."

I am looking for information on anyone related John B. Poff (my g.g.grandfather). John B. Poff 11/21/1860 - 10/25/1939 (West Virginia) married to Lou Emma Holsteine 3/29/1867 - 4/14/1946 (West Virginia) Children: Bertha Virginia Poff Eads 3/1/1885 - 3/1/1963 Bernard Poff Ruth Poff Thanks...Barbara Higgins
Happy New Year to all of you. As you track the elusive Poff families back through time, I'd appreciate your keeping the following question in mind. Should you discover anything that might shed light on my search, I'd be grateful if you would post a note for me here. I descend from William Wesley Poff, born 1822 somewhere in Ohio and died 1859 in Hopkins County, Texas. I have yet to discover anything about his origins, though I have a hunch his family may have moved from Ohio to Indiana while he was a young boy. He does not seem to have had any contact with his parents or siblings: he appeared in Arkansas around 1845, married Sara Elizabeth Simms, and then moved to Texas three years later with his father-in-law, John Simms, and their families. He apparently named his sons after his wife's parents, not his own. (The third son was named Henry Russell Poff, perhaps after a brother?) I have not searched the county records, probates, etc from Ohio or Indiana, and would be grateful if any of you who have or are doing so would tell me if you come across any Poff families where the name Wesley appears. My guess is that he may have had siblings who named children after a common ancestor or namesake. I did come across a census entry for a William W. Poff, age 40-50 in the 1830 census for Clark County, Indiana. He is the right age to be my guy's father, but he is living alone--no family listed. Anybody have any information on this fellow? Thanks for keeping this puzzle in mind as you work on your Poff roots. Jim McCormick
George Poff seems to be a very common name about this time. THere are several George Poffs. Mine was George W. Poff born in 1784. I have a picture of his tombstone in Oakwood Cemetery in Dennison Texas where he was buried with two sons and a daughter in law. They all died at different times. The one son, Andrew James, son Robert and Andrew's Wife Julia Pendergrass POff are all buried in the family plot. Andrew was born in 1844 In Virginia. In 1870 they all were in Clinton, Tennessee. By 1874 or so they were in Dennison, Texas. Andrew died in 1878. I had one person correspond with me a year or so ago and state that George was born in Clinton and that was where many Poffs were. I have been looking for proof of this, but could not find any. I have not heard again from the person who told me that. I would love to know more!
