    3. Jeri, I think you mean Edward III's granddaughter, and she's more commonly called Anne of Gloucester (dau. Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester). She married Edmund Stafford, 5th Earl of Stafford [CP XII/1:180-1]. The Staffords are descended from Robert de Stafford, a younger son of Roger de Toni [Loyd:99][CP XII/1:168, 757 note (c)]. It is believed that the unnamed wife of Robert de Stafford's grandfather, Ralph (II) de Toni, was possibly a member of a collateral branch of the Ducal family. According to Oderic Vitalis, Roger de Toni is descended [through his unnamed mother] from an alleged uncle of Rolf, the founder of Normandy [CP XII/1:755]. The name of this uncle (in Latin patruus meaning a father's brother) was thought to be Hulce, although no such brother of Ragnvald 'the Wise' is known. You still have a number of lines of descent from Rollo (Rolf/Hrolf) since both of Anne of Gloucester's parents were his descendants. And her husband Edmund obtains his line of descent from Rollo through his 4th great grandmother, Pernell de Ferrers (m. ca 1214 Hervey de Stafford)[CP XII/1:171]. Jim

    3. Hi, Helen, My married name, Czarnecki (pronounced Char-net-ski), is courtesy of my darling, imported husband. He immigrated from Poland in 1981. It appears that there are more Czarneckis here in the States than in Poland! We are always meeting people who know a Czarnecki and wonder if we are related - we're not, since my husband is the first in his family in memory to leave Poland for the US. Czarnecki means "black man" in Polish, but if you saw my husband, you'd wonder why. He started to turn gray when he was 16 and has had white hair for ever. At least he has a lot of it! And that way I can look younger by comparison. (I'm actually three years older). I'll look forward to your Calvert info. 3. Christine, I failed to mention earlier that your surname has always stood out to me, for I have a friend with the surname Czarneck who lives in Franklin, TN (just 20 miles South of Nashville). 3. Christine, Thanks so very much. I have the Calvert line, but I may have told you earlier, I had a mother board short, and I had to take all programs off. I haven't yet had time to return them all (Tax Time, you know <G>). As soon as I input all of my data into FTM again, I can determine my relationship to President Harrison. Elizabeth Harrison is a direct ancestor, and as I recall, I connect to her through son George Calvert IV, who was also one of the Lord Baltimores. PLEASE remind me in about two weeks, and I will give the info on the Lord Baltimore/Harrison connection for your files. This will be my closest relathonship, to date, to an American President, and I actually revere that relationship more than the connections to British and French royalty. In my retirement years, I am scrambling to learn the history, I so foolishly ignored as a science major. So now, I have a "new chapter" to explore. Helen Gant Donald Columbus, GA - Home of Ft. Benning and the U. S. Infantry (but I'm a native Nashvillian) ----- Original Message ----- From: "czarnecki" <czarnecki@sbcglobal.net> To: <PLANTAGENET-DESCENDANTS-PROJECT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 07, 2004 3:06 PM Subject: Re: [PDP] Gateway Ancestors > Helen, > > I looked on the Harrison Genealogy Repository > > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~harrisonrep/Harrison/d0051/g0000086.html#I446 > > which has a lot, but is not complete or perfect, and found: > > Elizabeth HARRISON (b. abt. 1700 VA) m. County Historical Societies, books on county history, land grants, deeds, indentures, ships records, church records (many on microfilm at FHL in Salt Lake) all constitute a paper trail for this family. A lot of these records aren't available on the Internet. Members of this family may have posted bonds, witnessed deeds, wills, etc. Cemeteries and cemetery records of older plots where markers are not readable might answer a number of questions. Then in England, in addition to ships (departure) records, they might have left at a time that required--I can't think of what it's called at the moment but it was from their local minister stating they were of good character and were loyal subjects. Also, Virginia had its corporate charter revoked in 1624, and from that time became a royal colony where the British government had greater control (and as such would have kept more records) than in other colonies--for a time, anyway. Another thing to look for in England then, is tax records, as all landholders in Virginia had to pay taxes to the crown and to the Church of England. I'm just spitballing ideas here but have all these things been tried? Jim

If so, it usually will give you the relationship to any person in your tree via the shortest route (Generations, Reunion, and The Master Genealogist will anyway). But in counting via this list, it appears she's your 18th great grandmother. As such, using the cousin calculator I mentioned in an earlier message, that makes you and I 18th cousins once removed. Via a different connection it might be shorter or longer. And we do seem to have other common connections--to the Stewarts, Bruces, Lords of Raby, and the Lords of Bamburg, to mention just a few I see. I also noted you're descended from the Red Douglases--any Black Douglases in there as well? Anyway, thanks for providing the information. 3. If you have the Presidential Harrison line, is there a connection of that line with the Maryland Calverts? Please excuse me for being so vague, but I lost all FTM files two weeks ago in a "controlled' computer crash, and will not have time to recover them until After Tax Time. I believe the Harrison who married a Calvert would have been the President's sister or aunt.
