Col.) Asa Harris IV. Asa Harris IV was born 18 April 1762 in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut and died 15 Dec 1812 in Harris Hill, Clarence, Niagara Co. (now Erie Co., New York. The family of three are in the 1790 census of Cannaan, Kings District, (Albany) now Columbia Co., New York. They are residing a few doors down from a Joseph Pitts, probably father or a brother. (see below) According to Erie Co., New York records Lydia Pitts Harris Britton was born 9 October 1770 in Canaan, New York and another record (1914 & 1925) of Asa Harris IV and Lydia Pitts Harris interview of his granddaughter in 1914, in Buffalo, New York stated that Asa had received land in Niagara Co., NY for serving in the Revolutionary War. They visited Niagara Co., several times, stopping in Onondaga Co., before finally setting at the Buffalo settlement in 1807. According to an August 25, 1925 article in the Buffalo Express from Mrs Geo. Wallace, Buffalo, N.Y. "the above genealogy mentioned, says of Asa Harris' father that he moved from Lebanon to Pittsfield, Mass, or vicinity and the births of the younger children are therein recorded as at Pittsfield. But no records there show absoulutely no trace of this family. It is evident that they lived during the Revolution and later somewhere on the boarder between Massachusetts and New York. The census of 1790 gives Asa Jr, as householder in Canaan, N.Y. his family consisting of a wife and one son under sixteen. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help me pull together this Pitts family. Barry C. K.
