Tuel is a surname that I research but have not found any relation, but I did find this obit that has names that you may be able to track down that I believe are related J.D. Pitts Funeral services for J.D. Pitts, 89, of Lufkin will be held Monday, February 9, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Frankens, Reverend R.G. Bud Davis and Reverend Jerry Pinner officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery. Mr. Pitts was born March 17, 1919, in Nacogdoches County, Texas, to the late Arthur and Clemmie (Rice) Pitts and passed from this life Friday, February 6, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. Mr. Pitts graduated from aircraft mechanic school in Dallas, Texas, then worked for Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, California, until enlisting and serving honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his wife, Lucille, were married in San Diego, California, and then lived in Tule Lake, California, and Stafford, Arizona, during his Military service. Upon returning to Angelina County, he began working for Lufkin Industries in 1950 and retired in 1983. He belonged to Local 1999 of the International Association of Mac! hinists until moving into a supervisory role. Mr. Pitts served on the Central ISD School Board, Woodland Heights Hospital Board, Central Water Board, and was a precinct chairman of the Angelina County Democratic Association. Mr. Pitts was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a farmer, cattleman, raised hunting dogs, and helped pioneer the early chicken raising business in Angelina County. Mr. Pitts was of the Pentecostal faith all his life and was devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal Ann and Sidney Gholson of Clarkesville, Georgia, and Beverley Gay and Larry Vann of Pollok; granddaughter, Liesa Ann Gholson of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughters and husbands, Toni Lynne Gholson and Steve Downs of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Lori Gayle Vann and Joe Spangler of Pollok; grandson and wife, Captain Lance Allen and Kimberly Dansby Vann of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Laura, M! elissa, and Rachel Downs all of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Mason and Kel len Spangler both of Pollok, and Spencer, Connor, and Palmer Vann all of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; sister, Edith Thompson of Pollok; sisters-in-law, Louise Pitts of Lufkin, Olera Pitts of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Frances Burrous Allen of Lufkin; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mattie Lucille Allen Pitts; and brothers, Homer, Paul, Addie, and Nathan Pitts. Pallbearers will be Joe Spangler, Mason Spangler, David Coleman, Bobby Frank Allen, Keith Jones, Richard Jones, Gary Pitts, and Gary Modisette. Honorary pallbearers will be Captain Lance Vann (currently serving in Baghdad, Iraq), Steve Downs, Sherman Allen, and W.C. Allen, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or the Gann Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 3022, Keltys Station, Lufkin, Texas 75903.
