I have not heard about any American Indian with the exact line you speak of but I can tell you from experience. I had some very dark folks on my grandma's side and I always suspected it was Indian because that is what I heard. When I went hunting it down; I figured out it was Black Dutch ancestry which look like American Indians but they are not. Just keep this in mind in your search. You have to examine the census records to see if theywrote "Indian" in that section. They would even write 1/4 or 1/2 if that applies and the tribe. That is a good indicator.
