Charlie's father's name was Hiram Pitts. There really was a Charlie Pitts in the James gang and he died of wounds following a bank robbery in Minnesota. The connection between that Pitts and the Osnabruck Pitts is unproven but the legend still exists in Osnabruck Township near Cornwall, Ontario. I have been researching this family for many years and would gladly share and exchange any information that you may have gathered also. My mother's maiden name was Pitts and she descends from James Pitts and Chesley Pitts of Osnabruck Township.
