I know that she was married once before. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Smith and she married first a Cook. I don't know much about Mark other than what I have found in the census and secondary documentations. Elizabeth's father was Philip (PJ) Smith. Another of P.J. Smith's daughters, Margaret C., married Jacob Southerland in Benton Co., AL and then to George Washington Gay, SR. Another of Philip's daughers, Lucinda J. Smith, apparently did not marry and is documented in the Southerland Bible. I'm sorry that I can't help any further. I know that one of Mark's sons, William F. Pitts is buried in Mt. Zion, Georgia along with his family. The Adolphus that this thread relates to went by several names; one being Matthew. Mark Pitts lived in Benton County which was the very large parent county for both Calhoun Co., AL and Cleburne Co., AL. Cleburne Co. was taken from Benton and Randolph Co., AL in the 1860's. Moreover, I haven't looked deep enough into Mark's history to find any brothers, sisters, or parents. My interest in the Pitts family lies in the fact that one of my wife's Gay ancestors was a sister to Mark's wife. The names, Miles Pitts and Susan Betts, I have not seen before. Sorry.
