Julia Rebecca Pitts was born abt. 1844 in Texas - father was John M Pitts and mother, Louiza or Louissa Pitts. Julia Rebecca is my great grandmother, Dr. Layafette Ledford, my great grandfather. In an 1870 census, a 68 y.o. male, James Smith, resides with John M Pitts and Louiza, along with Julia and her brother Eubulas ... however, there is no mention of a relationship to any of the family. My Pitts' were in Robertson Co., TN before going to Hickory Co., MO. I'm going to look into some more information but I hope you get back with me. We also have Miley Pitts' in our family so that is a family name from way, way back. As for the full blood Indian, it doesn't come from Elizabeth's father. If it was true and entered into the equation, it would have come from her mother. I don't know who her father is but I suspect a name but I'm not giving it yet. I want to prove it first. I only have a small amount of information on her.If you can connect to her let me know please. Her name was Elizabeth "Leah" Gertrude Pitts. She was born about 1816 in Roberson/Robertson County Tennessee. Leah Pitts married Jackson Berry Edwards in Tennessee about 1831. She was the mother of 8 children: Mary Emily, Sarah Ann,Amanda Elizabeth, Miley Pocohantus,James C. William C.,John W. and Nancy Paralea.
