Pitts, was the mother of my maternal great grandmother Mamie Cecelia (Winkler) REESE: married Asbury Stamper Reese (they resided in Elkton (Todd County) KY.) On my page I have pictures of them both. My mother remembered Dr. Reese (a dentist)and said he was a kind man. I am so thrilled to find so many links all over the place and I have heard from many distant relatives in a very short period of time. I see your posts are very old, so I hope you do get this message. Would you happen to have any photos of the Rev.?? I did get a copy of his book just ! recently. I dug out my family tree stuff and dont seem to have much info to offer you. I too can not figure out who is Drayton Tobias father. Where did you get the middle name as Tobias? I have had some people try to tell me that his middle name was Jordan but our family has passed down the info as Tobias. Who knows, maybe Drayton Tobias father was Drayton Jordan. Your grandfather James was the brother of my great great grandfather Jordan Buford. What is your dads name? I live with my grandfather and he might have some info. Your dad and his dad were cousins. I looked thru my census info and I dont have one listed with James Madison either. But I have him listed in my chart. I have civil war info on Drayton. I also have a picture of his wife Mary Jane Duncan Pitts. It is not a very good copy, but i would be happy to share. I also have a picture of James brother Jordan and his wife. Pitts who was married to Mary Duncan, The only thing I have to go on is my Father who is George born 1918 and is 92 years old now and he said that his Grandfather was Drayton Pitts. I have Obituary for James Pitts listing D.T. Pitts and Mary Duncan. I cannot find any census for James in 1890 listing Drayton as his Father and I have other censuses when James was married to Mary Chapman and kids and my Father is listed. The picture was among the effects of a grand aunt of mine (Gussie Lea Pruitt) who was born there in Shelby county in 1888, and came here to Trinity county, Texas with her mother and siblings abt. 1895. Her mother, Ann Pruitt, b 1858, Alabama, may have worked in the Pitts household in some capacity. Any way, it appears the families were acquainted. They were all born in either Essex or Caroline County,VA. This Pitts tree goes back to 1327. Many of the Pitts family wound up in Newberry County, South Carolina. Your Pitts who wound up in Florida have to somehow be connected. I believe that the Pitts family in Florida must have been fairly wealthy. I remember reading in the Palm Beach Post that the Pitts family owned big Munion Island and had a mansion there. It is located in the Intracoastal Waterway, adjacent to North Palm Beach,Fl. The mansion is no longer there. I don't know if we can connect or not, but sometimes a shred of information can help to guide us in the right direction.
