Hi Joe, The following are copies of my replies to Zimmy & Chris. Sorry I'm still learning how all this works! Before I posted my information to Joe I realised that I had some of Granado Pigott Ellis' children listed as his brother Henry's children, fortunately I saw my error in time! So I apologise if I've made or am about to make errors, it's easy to do, especially with all the marriages and children amongst the Haddenham Pigotts. Once again I will use the spelling Pigott (which is the most common amongst my branch) as it gets too hard to list the different spellings. Firstly I have a copy of my ancestor Richard Pigott's Will of 1814. He was a solicitor from Ely Holy Trinity. In his Will he gives his brother Granado Pigott land for him to live on for the remainder of his life (then when Granado dies the property goes to Richard's son Granado). There is no mention of Richard's brother Granado having heirs. I have found no record of him having married. I'm inclined to think that he isn't the father of the Haddenham Pigott Ellis branch & that it's probably Granado Pigott b. 1705 or do you think I'm way off track? When I was trying to sort out these Granado Pigotts I came across the reference to Granado Pigott and the bastardy bond to Mary Ellis. The information simply states Granado Pigott, gent. whereas other names might have a place name attached. So I think that if this Granado was an Abington Granado it would have 'of Abington' after his name. I think that the bastardy bond relates to an Ely Granado, as there were two Granado Pigotts of Ely Trinity and/or Ely Mary (it can be an important distinction to make in determining Pigott branches although the Granado's were from both parishes - I know confusing!). I found this information on an interesting website - you can simply google Cambridgeshire online archives or go to www.Cambridgeshire.gov.uk/leisure/archives/catalogue. It is the CALM online catalogue & I've found that other counties also have online catalogues (I've just discovered one for East Riding Yorkshire). You need to be exact with your spelling of your Pigott name. There are many entries for Pigotts of Royston. There was also another entry for Mary Ellis for 1750. Since there were many Mary Ellis' of Ely St. Mary I don't know if this entry and the one for the arrest warrant are for the same Mary Ellis as the Bastardy bond. I was curious about how the Pigotts ended up in Haddenham, as there doesn't seem to be any Pigotts in Haddenham prior to the late 18th century. I came across a Robert (shopkeeper? - I'm using my memory here!)& Sarah Pigott of Haddenham Cambridgeshire Family History society lists them in the database of masters and their apprentices. I haven't been able to place them yet with other Pigotts, but I don't think that they are related to the Ellis Pigotts. There was also a Philip & Amy Pigott of Haddenham (children: Naomi 1806, Susan 1807, Mary 1809). A Philip Pigott was born 1775 to parents John & Elizabeth Pigott of Cottenham. Philip Pigott married Amy Porter in 1805 in Haddenham. Once again I don't think he was connected with the Ellis Pigotts but can't be sure? When I came across the 2 marriage records of Mary Ellis of Ely marrying men from Haddenham, it seemed to be a missing puzzle piece that fit the picture (or the obsessive picture in my head!) of how they arrived in Haddenham. I found the marriage records on the website www.familyhistoryonline.net which has very comprehensive records (much better than IGI) for Cambridgeshire, but not necessarily for Haddenham! (I didn't find Mary Ellis Glenton's children here but instead on IGI, nor could I find certain Barrets on the above website). I can send you the inf. with exact dates, for the Ellis Pigotts I have, if you are interested. What makes this inf. so much better than IGI is that it often lists marriage witnesses, as well as giving inf. such as whether the person was widowed, unmarried, if a child was base, what parish they were from, age & occupation at death. Also whether they were unable to read - names marked with a cross? (not being a genealogist, I assume this is what a cross means!) I have found though that sometimes the index has recorded the wrong name e.g. looking for say a Sarah Pigott I've paid for the record and found that its actually a Carolina Pigott - but this has happened infrequently so far. IGI has - the Granado Pigott Ellis marriage to Margaret Crow 15 Apr 1805 Wilburton. Batch no. M138521 - Granado Pigott m Judith Wray 23 Jan 1787 Haddenham B.n. M138162 - Granado Pigott-Ellis m. Ann Tuck 23 Nov 1789 Harston B.n. M130871 - the marriages of Mary Ellis 1779 & Mary Ellis 1778 B.n. M013412 - Henry Pigott or Ellis m. Sarah Robinson 4 Jan 1791 Haddenham B.n. M138162 - Robert Pigott m. Sarah Brand 2 Nov 1769 Haddenham - Sarah Barret m. Henry Pigott Ellis 26 Jan 1817 Haddenham I have found the Cambridgeshire Family History Society Searchable Database (for births and burials from 1801 to 1836) an invaluable tool (I wish that all the counties had such a free database!). www.cfhs.org.uk I used this to find the Ellis Pigott children of Granado & his wives, Granado and Sarah, and Henry. It's extremely confusing as they are listed under the names Ellis, P Ellis and or Pigott. e.g. Charles Pigott son of Granado is recorded under the names Charles Ellis and Charles Pigott. George C. Pigott b. 1806 is listed as the son of Granado & Margt. & I think that the C possibly stands for Crow? I found the inf. you posted in 2006 on the Ely Pigotts when I first started my research and it's been very useful, so thankyou Chris. I have copies of the wills of two of my relatives, which I downloaded from the National Archives. I have transcribed them as best as I can. One is from Henry Pigott, solicitor of Ely, who was also the Lord of the Manor of Thetford (or Little Thetford). The other is the will of his father Richard Pigott, also a solicitor, and who owned for a short period, the manorial rights to Soham. It took me a while to realise that one of Richard's witnesses to his will, was a name that I had come across before (actually in your posting). This name is Margaret Kitchener. When I did some digging I discovered that this was his sister. Children of William Pigott (butcher of Ely Trinity) and Elizabeth Atkin: 1. Granada Piggott baptised 23 Feb 1738 Ely, Holy Trinity.
