    1. [PIGGOTT] More Cambridgeshire Information

    3. Hi List, Peter PIGGOTT has joined in with some additional information. Thanks, Peter !! :-) Hi Joe, Yes please, I would be interested in your Excel file - as a Piggott, living and growing up in Cambridgeshire - although my line is from one of the Cottenham Piggotts. Living in Haddenham, I have a copy of 'A Parish History of Haddenham Isle of Ely' by Charles F.Bester. He makes reference to Granado and familly a few times - I don't know if the information will help others looking in to that line. The book says, referring to the parish and its register: 'The next memorial in its beautiful simplicity records the sad, early death of Judith Pigott. "In memory of Judith the wife of Granado Pigott who died 20th January 1788 aged 20 years." Granado Pigott was a young attorney who was engaged to deal with manorial estates in the parish. He also dealt with the estate of the Rev. William Cole of Milton who owned considerable property in Haddenham, and his name is recorded in the tower of St Clements Church, Cambridge, where the inscription reads, "The first stone of this steeple was laid by Mr Granado Pigott of Ely the legal representative of the laste Revd. William Cole of Milton on the 6h day of June 1821." The Pigott familly was associated with the parish of Abington Pigotts, having held the manor there from 1427 to 1802. According to the Parish Register Judith Wray, the eldest daughter of David Wray, married Grando Pigott Ellis on 23rd January 1787. The use of Ellis as a surname was used later in the familly, but it appears that the name Pigott was usually preferred. A son was born on 22nd April 1787 and was baptised on 6th June 1787, receiving the names of David Wray Pigott. Granado soon married again, for on 30th September 1791 we find an entry in the register recording the baptism of Lorenzo, son of Granado and Ann Pigott. Ann died on 18th November 1803, and Granado marries for the third time, for on 18th November 1806 his son George Crow was baptised.' Earlier in the book Judith is mentioned - 'On 27th January 1788, Judih Pigott was buried, who is commemorated on a beautiful oval memorial on the south wall of the church.' Don't know if that help anyone. 3. Peter, I was wondering if the book mentioned maybe which church in Haddenham the Pigott's belong too. As mentioned below.. Not sure but I've heard that tombstones would not last long past maybe 50 + years. Not sure if true in England if any would still be there back in late 1700's or early 1800's.
