Joe, I had intended to mention that the current abstracts on PIGOTTs of Bucks are from my computer notes, & that a hard copy of these was deposited at the Mormon Church's Family History Library in Salt Lake City in 2001. Thomas PIGOTT, eldest son of Thomas PIGOTT, Serjeant-at-Law, by his 2nd wife Elizabeth IWARDBY (see earlier posting); of Doddershall, Bucks, 1520, so probably under age & ward of his widowed mother; Sheriff of Bucks, 1551-52, 1557; Pardon Roll of Queen Mary, 11 Nov 1553; named in a Commission of Oyer & Terminer, dated 2 May 1554, with others, to investigate treasons & other offences committed in numerous counties; probably also of Grendon; died at Doddershall, 1559; will pr P.C.C. 1564; marr Katherine LANGSTONE (daur & heir of Thomas LANGSTONE, of Abingdon, Berks); issue: 1. Thomas PIGOTT, b 1534, eldest son & heir. See next below. 2. Francis PIGOTT; marr Judith ESTON (daur of Thomas ESTON of Holme, Beds, by Margaret JOYCE). 3. Robert PIGOTT. 4. Thomas PIGOTT, son & heir; of Doddershall; Sheriff of Bucks, 1592; marr 1stly, Dorothy COTENHAM (daur of Henry COTENHAM of Co Norfolk); issue: a. Thomas PIGOTT, b 1584, only son & heir apparent; died v.p., & buried at Hogshaw, 3 Oct 1602, aged 18. b. Elizabeth PIGOTT; marr Sir William WALTER of Wimbledon, Co Surrey. [G] Christopher PIGOTT; graduated from Oxford University, Dec 1573; Gray's Inn, 1577; served in Ireland; cr Knight at Leixlip, 21 Jul 1604, by Sir George CAREY, Lord Lieutenant; elected Knight of the Shire for Bucks, 1604, & took his seat in Parliament, at a time when the new King, James I (& VI of Scotland), was pressing for fuller union between the two countries; on Friday 13 Feb 1606, the Speaker, his brother-in-law, had offered to read the Remembrances of an earlier discussion on this subject of Union with Scotland, & during procedural discussion, there was a noisy interruption by Sir Christopher, who, "...in a loud voice, & not standing bare-headed as the order is..." pressed to have them read generally & at once - other members, outraged at his neglect of standing orders, demanded he explain himself - at which point he launched into an "...invective, using words of scandal & obliquy...against the Scots in general" - it is alleged that his words were "...Let us not join! murderers, thieves & the roguish Scots with the well-deserving. Have they not suffered above two Kings to die in their beds these 200 years. Our King hath hardly escaped them..." - the harangue passed censure at the time, but the King was incensed that he had not been punished - which he then was; arrested by the Sergeant-at-Arms, he was brought before the Bar of the House, but the members tired of him, & he was ordered to be committed to the Tower, & dismissed from the House, & from his position as Knight for the Shire; he languished in the Tower until 27 Feb, "...sick with a burning fever & in danger of his life"; the House, after slow deliberations with the King, moved for clemency, & he was released from the Tower, but not reinstated to the House; he died at Doddershall, 24 Oct 1613, & was buried at Hogshaw, aged about 55; marr 1stly, Ursula PIGOTT (daur & coheir of Valentine PIGOTT of Loughton - see earlier posting); issue: 1. [J] Thomas PIGOTT, b ca 1644; last of the line of PIGOTTs of this family setaed at Doddershall; died Doddershall, Mar 1704, aged 59, & buried Quainton Church; marr Elizabeth LOVETT (daur of Robert LOVETT of Lipscombe, Bucks, by Penelope AYLETT); she died 18 ov 1735, aged 84, & bur Quainton Church; on her death, Doddershall, together with Grendon Manor, was devised to John PIGOTT, son of Richard PIGOTT of Chetwynd, Co Salop, Esq (see my postings on this unrelated family some time ago); issue: 1.
