It sets the whole campaign in perspective, starting with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in June of 1914 and the almost inevitable build-up to full-scale invasion and war. The Australians and New Zealnaders were quick to respond to the calls of the mother country, recruiting for the AIF beginning six days after the outbreak of war.
