Hi Catt, Yes, X-DNA can be used to test for paternity. Like my example of mixing paint, if possible Dad #1 is 'Blue' X-DNA, possible Dad #2 is 'red' DNA and Mom is 'yellow' DNA, and the baby is tested as 'Green' X-DNA, you know it is not possible Dad #2 as baby would have orange DNA. Very simplified, but I think you can understand that the X-DNA is mixed, so they are not much good past a couple of generations. Paternity is one generation. In checking for a mother, mtDNA is the way to go.
