Hi List, I hope that there is someone living in Ramsgate that might be able to point me toward a living relation. My maternal Grand Uncle James Henry PIGGOTT, a plumber, died in Broadstairs on 4 January 1959, and his wife Rose Annie PIGGOTT, a milliner dress maker, died in Broadstairs on 17 September 1963. The PIGGOTTs had two daughters. Kathleen Rose Edna PIGGOTT, born 22 October 1911, was also a dress maker, and died in the 2nd Quarter of 1977. I have found continuity on K.R.E. PIGGOTT through her death date in the Ancestry.com UK Phone Directory database. The youngest daughter, Joan Doreen PIGGOTT, born 25 June 1913 married Harold Aubrey MARKS in the 4th Quarter 1932. They had one son that I have found so far, Colin A. MARKS, born in Thanet in the 4th Quarter of 1935. I actually have a picture of young Colin, so I know that he lived through at least childhood. I have just finished a run through every quarter of the Ancestry.com Death Records from 1935 to 2004. I found the death of Harold Aubrey Marks in Thanet in the 1st Quarter of 1971. However, I found no trace of a death for either Joan Doreen or Colin. Colin would be just 73 at this time, and since that is only 3 years older than me, he is hopefully still living. :-) Joan, on the other hand, would be 95 if still living, which is much less likely. I found continuity for H. A. MARKS between 1950 and his death date in 1971 in the phone directories. He was listed in Ramsgate under the Thanet exchange, with address "Llanrhos, Dumpton Park drive, with phone number 53480. I find no subsequent entries for J. D. MARKS that show the same address. I found several different C. A. MARKS listings between 1967 and the latest listing in 1984. Between 1967 and 1976 there is a C.A. MARKS listed at 67 Ashford Rd, Bearsted, Maidstone exchange, number 38711. Starting in 1967 there is a C.A. Marks, caterer, listed at 1 The Collonade, Ramsgate, Thanet exchange, number 53407. In 1969 there is a double listing that appears to indicate that C.A. Marks, caterer moved from 1 The Collonade, Ramsgate to 99 London Rd, Ramsgate, Thanet exchange, number 52509. This listing continues until 1980. Beginning in 1971 a C.A. MARKS is listed as a butcher at 9 Sun Street, Canterbury exchange, number 68171 and continues until 1978. Finally, a C.A. MARKS is listed at 2 Cornwall Clo, Westmorland Rd, Maidstone exchange, number 63722, and continues until 1984. There appear to be several different MARKS families residing in Thanet during this period. At present I have no information concerning any of these other MARKS families as possible relatives. It is highly likely that one of the above C.A. MARKS is my relative, whom I would dearly love to contact if he is in fact still living. On the down side, the on line BT Residential Directory does not list a C.A. MARKS. If anyone on the list can provide a lead to my MARKS relatives, I would be especially grateful. Regards, Joe
