Martha Pigott could have been the sister-in-law of William Pigott: possibly married to William's brother Henry Pigott (baptised 24 Oct 1707 EHT died 2 Nov 1758 EHT). He was, like William, a butcher, but no marriage record for Henry has been found. - Elizabeth Piggott daugher of William & Elizabeth baptised 11 Jun 1745 EHT. Elizabeth Pigott, spinster, married Highmore Skeats, bachelor, by licence 22 Jun 1786 EHT. Witnesses Granado Pigott & Sarah Pigott. Haylock ... .... Margaret Wade signed W Pigott I assume that on the missing page 2 of William's will he refers to his other children: Mary Pigott christened 10 Dec 1751 EHT Richard Pigott christened 22 Nov 1753 EHT Margaret Pigott christened 13 Feb 1756 EHT Richard Pigott b. 1753 EHT was a solicitor who married Sarah Haylock 18 Nov 1783 in Downham Cambridgeshire. They also named a son Granado christened 16 Aug 1785 EHT. In Margery Minnett's notes (which can be acquired from the Cambridgeshire Record Office Archives) she explains the relationship between the Minett family and the Ely Pigotts, in particular the Grenado Pigott b. 1785. This Granado "was a farmer living in St. Mary's Street and no trace can be found of a marriage" pg 123. She goes on to explain that he had a housekeeper named "Sarah Haylock" (interestingly his mother's name) otherwise known as "Sarah Newell" who was present at his death, giving her mark. Granado owned farming land around Ely and left in his will: "all and singular my messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments whatsoever wheresoever unto my brother Henry Pigott his heirs and assigns for ever, subject nevertheless to and charged and chargeable with the payment of the sum of one thousand pounds unto Sarah daughter of my housekeeper Sarah Haylock otherwise Sarah Newell on her attaining the age of 21 years and also with the payment of the sum of five hundred pounds unto my said housekeeper Sarah Haylock otherwise Newell within 6 months after my decease. Also I give and bequeath all my ready money and all my household furniture, wearing apparel, plate, linen and china unto my said housekeeper for her own use, benefit and disposal" Margery Minett's notes page 123 - Henry Pigott son of Richard and Sarah baptised 16 Jan 1784 EHT - from the christening record of the housekeeper's daughter (see below - also listed in the IGI records), Sarah Haylock/Newell, the housekeeper, was a spinster and went by the name "Newell" on her daughter's christening record. So I looked for birth records for both Sarah Newell and Sarah Haylock: * Sarah Newell daughter of Jeremiah and Lydia Newell christened 26 OCT 1797 Haddenham, Cambridge, England (IGI) * Sarah Newell daughter of William and Elizabeth Newell christened 26 DEC 1784 Trinity, Ely, Cambridge, England (IGI) * approximately 7 Sarah Haylocks baptized in the Ely area between 1776 & 1793 (IGI) - It is obvious from the Minett notes that Margery was unaware that Granado's mother's maiden name was Haylock. From my research of the Haylocks, Granado Pigott didn't have any Haylock first cousins. So if his housekeeper was a "Haylock" then she could have been a distant cousin. She could also (but I feel it unlikely) have been a half sister, although I have found no record of Granado's mother Sarah having had an illegitimate child prior to her marriage to Richard Pigott in 1783. - Sarah Newell baptised 12 Aug 1817 Born - - - Name Sarah NEWELL son/dau of dau of Father - Mother Sarah Residence - Father Occupation sp Notes - Parish Ely, St Mary (Federation of family histories family history online). I propose that this is the daughter of the housekeeper Sarah Haylock/Newell. Margery Minett writes that when the daughter "married Thomas Waters Minett in 1843, they called their eldest son Granado Pigott and one does wonder if Sarah was, in fact, the natural daughter of the well-to-do farmer. However I personally tend to think that she was just the illegitimate daughter of his housekeeper and was brought up all her life in his house.Sarah must have been proud of her connection with the Pigotts and so was her son Granado, for he was always known as Pigott and passed the name down to his eldest son, christening him Edward Pigott Minett." Margery Minett's notes page 123. - Granado Pegott Minett son of Thomas Waters Minett and Sarah b. 24 OCT 1843 c. 20 NOV 1843 Eaton Socon, Bedford, England (IGI) Margery also mentions another connection between the name Minett and Pigott: in 1859 a Jane Minett of Birmingham spinster and domestic servant had a daughter called Agnes Pigott who died in 1859.
