    1. [PIGGOTT] Ordering GRO Certificates
    2. Joe Bissett
    3. Hi list, For those of you with roots in England 1837 onward: >For those that don't know this.... > >When you order certificates on-line with the GRO references >http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp > >and you list a parent/s, if the certificate is wrong and doesn't correspond >to the details provided, > >the GRO will email you and tell you that the one >you have ordered is incorrect. <<======================== > >They will also refund to your account, part of the fee. I can't remember >exactly how much but it was somewhere between three and four pounds >refunded. It certainly saves you some money at least, doing it this way. 3. Joe noted that in the 1930 U.S. Census, Walter M. Piggott was an inmate at Leavenworth prison. I found the following article: Re: Warren M. Piggott Cass City Chronicle Cass City, Michigan Friday, October 4, 1929 Declaring that Warren M. Piggot, Bay City furniture dealer, is responsible for a loss of $1,0000.000 by business firms in this country, Federal Judge Arthur J. Tuttle Friday evening sentenced him to the maximum term for use of the mails to defraud of 10 years in the United States penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kans., after the jury had returned a verdict of guilty on all of the 13 counts in which the government charged Piggott with wrongdoing.

    1. [PIGGOTT] Those Ontario, Canada PIGGOTTs
    2. Joe Bissett
    3. Hi list, I found an old message from January 2, 2000 that provided the clue to move backward in time to the founding PIG(G)OT(T) family for this area of interest. The message is quoted below. I attempted to contact its author, Mary Beth Hartnett, but the old e-mail address is no longer valid. My research resulted in my finding the following URL: http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/passengerlists/peterrobinsonindex.htm On this URL is the story of the Government supported emigration of poor southern Irish families to Upper Canada in two waves (1823 and 1825). The project was under the direction of Mr. Peter Robinson, an Englishman, who moved to Ireland to conduct the project, and accompanied both emigrations personally. His reports contain fascinating basic information. The references to Lord Doneraile about which Mary Beth inquires are numbers assigned to families that were recommended for immigration by his Lordship. Each family has a person who recommended them, and each head of family signed a certificate, of which two examples are shown. The HARTNETT family was part of the 1823 migration, while the PIG(G)OT(T) family came aboard the Elizabeth in 1825. I am hoping to see an input from Chris PIGOTT, who has provided us much genealogical data on Irish PIGOTT lines. I reviewed his earlier messages, but did not see any tie-in to these Ontario immigrants, that I could determine. In any event, it would now seem that the PIGOTT line of interest for Lisa Pollock could also be descended from this original family, which eventually spread south and west into the United States. Are there any other list members that trace their interest to this line? 1. [PIGGOTT] Piggott Henry, died 1912 and Marshall Piggott
    2. Linda Payne
    3. It looks like this is the bit that connects Henry Piggot who died in Ontario 1912 and Marshall Piggott who was murdered in 1884. I will soon search the 1861 census in case it gives me additional information. Henry, who died in 1912, is, I believe, the son listed here as 15 years old. This looks like a second marriage for Henry senior. William Piggott would seem to be an older son, a brother to young Henry. William and wife Livinia are living next door to Henry senior and family. As Joe showed earlier, Marshall was the son of William Piggott and Livinia House. Their son, Charles H. Piggott, the future builder of "Piggott's Folly", an historical building in Portland Oregon, is listed. Young Henry's age is shown as a bit older than a birthdate of 1840 would indicate, however, these are the only Piggotts of North Dorchester I could find in the 1851 Census (actually taken in 1852), and I feel this is most likely the family we are looking for. 1851 Canada Census Ontario/Middlesex County / Dorchester Part 1 -(North) / 1 Henry Piggott Farmer b. 1. [PIGGOTT] An Idea
    2. Joe Bissett
    3. Hi List, I have been toying with an idea to help other PIGGOTT researchers. Many of us have spent a good deal of money retrieving BMD certificates. I myself have a book of them from my English ancestors. Although I currently know of no other person outside of my immediate family who is researching my line, at some point someone may just "show up" unexpectedly. I own and control several domain names, and have two domains live on the internet for business reasons other than genealogy. (Yes, there IS a life after genealogy) :-) I am considering putting digital scans of BMDs on line for PIGGOTT listers to retrieve BMDs, and to contribute their own digital scans. In my opinion, if a lister were to retrieve only ONE BMD in this way, the cost savings would make it worthwhile. This idea came to me as I muddled through the large families associated with Clavering, Essex and noted how many BMD certificates are required for proper source documentation of the various lines. HOWEVER, there are many listers who have, as yet, not even posted their basic interests for us to see, to try to tie in to, and to try to help. I administer this list to foster sharing of information, and I do so willingly. I would expect the same consideration for freely exchanging BMDs that a researcher spent with hard earned cash to obtain. Therefore, I would closely control access to this web site, allowing only those listers who contribute BMD digital scans to access and retrieve other listers' contributions. This makes sense to me; how about you? I would appreciate a PRIVATE e-mail, OFF LIST, from any list member holding BMDs from PIGGOTTs and key sidelines world wide who would be willing to support this effort. 1. [PIGGOTT] Clavering PIGGOTTs, a compilation
    2. Joe Bissett
    3. Saffron Walden Compilation centered on period 1837-1851 Hi Listers, I went through my 1837 On Line scans and Free BMD, extracting all of the Saffron Walden entries that I found. I then tried to compile the census information from 1841 and/or 1851 for the various families. Finally, using other information that has been contributed by users to the list, I tried to add in earlier BMD information. Please note that I have no certificates to analyze; therefore, BMD information was only attributed to a census person when it appeared to be certain. There is no certainty that I am correct without retrieving the appropriate certificate copy. I would greatly appreciate it if every lister who ties in to this line would post a short note to the list stating their particular line of greatest interest. It would be nice to know that this work is helping folks. Anyone wanting a particular census image, please e-mail me directly OFF LIST and I will send it to you.
