    1. Re: [PIGGOTT] William Piggott marriage 1868

    3. Hi Chris, William Piggott has caused me some confusion in the course of researching my family history! I sent for his marriage certificate to Rosina Shaw thinking he was in fact my Great, Great Grandfather George William Piggott, who I knew had married a woman with the name of Rosina. When you refer to the census returns of 1861 and 1871 in your message, you are referring to George William Piggott and this particular strand of my family. However...! Since doing a little more delving into my family history, I discovered that George William Piggott married a lady called Rosa Sedgwick. Rosa's name has variants, including Rose, Rosina & Rosario, all of which appear in various historical documents. I can back all of this up as George William died in 1894, and Rosa re-married; her second marriage certificate states she was living at her Father's address at the time of the marriage, and gives his name as John Sedgwick. >From my family research at least, it would appear that William Piggott is a red herring! It's also an extraordinary coincidence that a Piggott, living in the same area of Middlesex, married a lady called Rosina. A further coincidence is the fact that William Piggott's occupation is listed as "Lighterman's mate" on his marriage certificate; George William's occupation was that of Thames lighterman. In fact, GW died on the job so to speak after "falling off his dumb barge whilst under way"! I am currently trying to discover more information about George William & Rosina's son, another George William, born in Middlesex c1868, so if anyone can help I'd be very grateful. Kind regards, Rebecca Woods _________________________________________________________________ Get Hotmail, News, Sport and Entertainment from MSN on your mobile. http://www.msn.txt4content.com/

    3. It seems that William PIGGOTT was not quite who he seemed. He was almost certainly enumerated at Thames Row, Ealing, 1871, as George W. PIGGOTT, aged 24, Waterman, b Chiswick, with wife Rosina, aged 22, born Isleworth, Msx, & son George W., aged 2, b Old Ha(...), Co Msx. They do not appear to be in the 1881 Census. George William PIGGOTT was probably born at Brentford, Co Msx, Dec qtr 1847. The 1861 Census records, at Back Lane, Chiswick, Co Msx, the following family: George W. PIGGOTT, Head, Marr, 43, Labourer Gas Works, b Chiswick, Co Msx. Harriett PIGGOTT, Wife, Marr, 35, b Chiswick. Harriett PIGGOTT, daur, Unm, 17, b Chiswick. George W. PIGGOTT, son, aged 13, b Chiswick, Annie E. PIGGOTT, daur, aged 11, Scholar, b Chiswick. Emily M. PIGGOTT, daur, aged 7, b Chiswick. Charles J. PIGGOTT, son, aged 1, b Chiswick. George William PIGGOTT & Harriet TAYLOR were married at Brentford, Co Msx, Mar qtr 1843. George William PIGGOTT may have been baptised at St John's, Horseleyden, Bermondsey, London, 16 Aug 1818, son of George & Betsy PIGGOTT. There was a George PIGGOTT who marr at St Botolph's, Bishopsgate, 11 Aug 1817, Elizabeth Mary Ann ADAMS. Regards, Chris PIGOTT.

    3. Hi Joe, It's my pleasure. It seems pointless that the certificate just gathers dust in a folder when it could help someone out. Since becoming interested in genealogy, I've received a tremendous amount of help from other people; this is my way of repaying that I guess. Have just posted another message about a birth certificate for a George Piggott! Nearly all of the above constitutes a speculative pedigree based on available indexed information on the public record. Some of the presumptions may be incorrect. Numbers marked witn * after a year date alone, indicate Registered number of an unseen entry. Some full death dates obtained from Probate Index A few years ago, it was possible to obtain a Registry Transcript for about half the price of a full certified entry; I have the name of a Transcription Agent. Daniel & Alice had other issue in Saffron Walden, some of whose descendents also went to N.S.W., for which I have details. Very happy to receive corrections &/or additions. I hope some of it may help in recent PIGGOTT-List queries about Marjorie PIGGOTT. Regards, Chris PIGOTT, Potts Point, N.S.W.

    3. Hello again Susannah..Working on the premise that Helen Piggott was Helen Amos (you were lucky to find those photos) married at Parramatta in 1932/14279 to Ernest J Piggott who is possibly the brother of Marjorie Piggott married Foad therefore sister in law. Ernest was born in Campbell town (its is near Liverpool) in 1906/ 12044 to William R and Agnes L. Piggott. William R married Agnes L Taylor at Marrickville (Registration district of Sydney) in 1904. William R born to William and Catherine in 1875. There are no deaths for William R to 1976 (latest date online) but there is a death for Agnes Letitia Piggott in 1962/ 32122 at Liverpool daughter of Richard John and Fanny Letitia. You will find this information online at NSW BDM and certificates cost 25 Australian dollars. I think you may find Marjorie on this death certificate. Hope this is good news. No war record for William Sydney Foad. He may have been a British serviceman? You may be interested in looking at the site (Google) as 15 Foads mostly immigration. Another site is the NSW BDM (Birth Death and Marriages) but again the time period is not good as you have probably found out. Also the online NSW STATE ARCHIVES does not come up with anything for Foad. Was hoping for a probate packet but you may be able to hunt around further. Can you give me a possible area and / or specifically what you are hoping to find as I may be able to look in the electoral returns (not online). There is a well know Genie magazine called Australian Family Connections which may be worth a please find - I can do if you wish. Let me know. My best Wishes and isn't it a small world! I am researching this family, particularly George William born c.1867 in Chiswick (my Great Grandfather) whom very little is known about. So far, I have been unable to trace a record of his birth, for example. He married Emily Eliza Sophia Church on May 23rd 1896 in Chiswick; they had four daughters, Emily, Ivy, Violet and Rose (my Grandmother). On their marriage certificate, George William's occupation is given as "checker" though census returns also show he worked as a dock labourer. George William and Emily divorced in the 1920's and I have been unable to find any trace of him after this time. George William's ancestors are as follows:- Parents George William (born c1847 Chiswick, died 1896 Rotherhithe) and Rosa Sedgwick (born c1849 Isleworth) Occupation: Thames Lighterman Grandparents George William (born c1818 Chiswick, died 1879 Brentford) and Harriet Taylor (born c1826, Chiswick) Married January 8th 1843, Parish Church, Twickenham Occupation: Waterman Great Grandparents David Piggott and ? 1. [PIGGOTT] Dr. James A. PIGGOTT
    2. TerryJulieGoheen
    3. The following is my husband's, Terry, 3rd great grandfather. Dr. James A. Piggott has the town Piggott, Arkansas named after him. Northern soldiers returning from the long bloody struggle of the civil war told very interesting stories of the new undeveloped state of Arkansas that they had seen or heard of while in the Army. These stories were responsible for many Northern families settling in the new country. In the fall of 1873 James A. Piggott of Dow, IL and some of his neighbors laoded thirteen wagons with implements necessary for the opening of a home in a new and undeveloped country and headed for Arkansas. Crossing the St. Francis River at Chalk Bluff they made their way down Crowley's Ridge and across the White River bottoms near Little Rock. Not finding a suitable location in the central part of the state they turned again tot he northeast. When reaching the beautiful hills about two miles borthwest of what is now Piggott they decided that this was the place to build a home. Here on the hill west of where Laws Cargrill lives, Dr. Piggott built a house, celared a small farm and began the practice of medicine. At this early date the railroad had not been thought of. There was no post office nearer than Chalk Bluff and roads were only dim trails leading from one settlement to another. The dense forest were broken only by the scattered clearings and few settlers abounded with game. The Dr. was finiding it very inconvenient to make his way through this almost unbroken forest to Chalk Bluff to the nearest post office and also take care of his expanding medical practice. He petitioned the Postal Department to establlish another office in the home of his neighbor Richard Throgmorton, Postmaster. Mrs. Throgmorton, who took care of the mail named the new office Piggott in honor of the doctor. The Dr. also took an active part in securing the right of way for the new railroad- The Cotton Belt, which he saw completed before his death. Dr. James A. was born in St. Louis County, Missouri June 9, 1816 and died in Clay County, Arkansas November 4, 1882. Shortly after his death the post office which bears his name was moved from the Throgmorton home to the new town that was bring built on the railroad. It, too, later taking the name of Piggott. Copied from the Piggott Banner, dated Sep 6, 1946.
