Hi List, Hopefully one of you may be able to help Lynn through this peripheral association of Henry PIGOTT's land grant in Galway. Joe I am searching for the marriage date and location for Mary MULVIHILL who married Michael MCDERMOTT. Mary's father was John MULVIHILL/ MULVEHIL and her mother's name was Mary. I am also searching for Mary's maiden name. I have found a land entry for a John MULVIHIL renting in Clonmoylon South, Parish Ballynakill, Galway. The land was owned by John Frees, Esq. and may have been part of a land grant To Henry Pigott. There is a death record for a Mary MULVEHILL in 1864, farmer's wife, in Clonmoylan. I have also found a death record in 1864 for a John MULVEHILL, farmer, in Coose South and a death record for a Mary MULVEHILL in Coos. Does anyone know if Clonmoylon South, Coos and Coose South are relatively close to each other? My problem is that I can't figure out which MULVEHILL couples might be Mary MULVIHILL MCDERMOTT's parents. I do know that she was born about 1816 in parish Ballynakill, Co.,Galway. Mary MULVIHILL married Michael MCDERMOTT, born about 1814 in Galway, and had a son, Martin, born 1844 in Ireland, possibly Galway. The family emigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio sometime between 1845 and 1858 where a daughter Mary Agnes was born in 1859. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Lynn

I found in the IGI records a marriage for Mary BARRY to Michael PIGOTT for 13-Jul-1856 in Boston, Suffolk, MA, Michael PIGOTT's father is listed as Thomas; Mary BARRY's father listed as Richard. I also found a death for a Mary (BARRY) PIGOTT at the MA VItal Records site as having died in year 1877 (Volume 294, page 203). I am hoping to find more information about this couple in the hopes of confirming that this Mary and Michael PIGOTT are the same ones that I found in the 1870 Census: 1870 Census for MA/Boston/Ward 8/Suffolk County Roll M593-645/pg 88 lists the following: Pigott, Michael (age 42) Male, White, Porter in STore, Place of Birth Ireland. I am not related to this line. I have seen this variation of the spelling on my mom's side. One of my great-grandfathers and back came through Daniel Piquette who lived in Md. I believe that one of the earliest Piquette's names was Louis Piquette. Daniel Piquette's daughter was Hanorah 'Nora' Piquette and she is one of my great-grandmothers. Over the years I have seen various versions of the surname -Piquette... Piqot, Pigot, Picot, Piquet, Piquett, Paquette, to name a few. The origin of our Piquette line goes up from MD... up through the East Coast... possibly into Canada since that is where we find most of the distant cousins, then further back into England for a while, and then back further into France. Old spellings of Piggot include Pygott, which removes it further from the French name. It's predominantly a Yorkshire name. I forget its purported meaning. Hi List, Found on another list: Hello Marie I wrote yesterday that I thought there were two family groups of Sellers in the county, descending from brothers William Riley Sellers and Elisha Sellers b 1825. Well I was wrong. If there are two lines they start further back. I should point out that I have been married to a Brunswick County Sellers for 38 years. However we've never dug into family history beyond Burgwyn until now. So if you shared that e-mail, folks know that occasionally I let my ignorance show. According to the Berlyn Lancaster book, the children of Elisha and Elizabeth (possibly/probably Elizabeth Anne Hickman married 7/31/1815 - NC marriages) are as follows with dates from tombstones: Kelly who married Harriet Hewett H K b 17 June 1818 d 24 Jan 1891. Harriet b 4 Mar 1820 d 23 Aug 1898. (This has to be Kelly) and wife Harriet. Elisha II (as Berlyn identifies him - we say b1825) married Mary Elizabeth Price Mary Amanda married Levi Swain William Riley married Louise Clemmons John married Elizabeth Piggott Many of these folks and their descendents are buried at Galloway Cemetery. Near Elisha b1825 we find Kelly and his wife Harriet, Mary A and Levi Swain, William R (I think, got to go back) did not see John will look again. Anyway will send further pictures after I get them. And it appeared most of their children are buried there as well. It might be called Galloway cemetery, but it looks like Sellers outnumber Galloways 10 to 1. In the 1850 census he is shown living with Mary and a 9mo old child, Columbia in Shelby Co. AL. They were in the household with John Boothe. David Pickett is a son of Abner Piggot, Jr. who with Abner Sr. moved from GA in 1815 on a wagon train according to research I have. Abner was a Revolutionary Soldier from GA. A distant relative of mine ( the Clem Willcutt line ) did this Pickett (Piggot(t) research in Shelby Co. Ala. but did not find any will probated for Abner or David in Shelby Co. AL. Abner Piggott is found in Wilkes Co. GA. She tried to link him with no success with the Piggott's in Northhampton Co. VA. DAR records show he was in the Revolutionary War. There is an Abner Piggott in the 1810 James City Co. VA census. He was not in GA until 1820 census. Other Piggotts in James City County were John and Benjamin. Do you have any info them? Also, Northhampton Co, VA has many Piggotts. Further, I have the Family Bible of possibly W.W. Pickett ( "Uncle Bud " born Jan. 14, 1852 ). It was passed to me by the last surviving son ( William Dolphus Simmons ) of my G-Mother. In it there is an entry for "J. E. Pickett" born Nov. 13, 1857. Our dates agree, so this is probably your John Ellis Pickett. There are about twenty entries for other Pickett's including Margaret Elizabeth Pickett Simmons ( died July 26, 1963 ) having 30 G-children, 64 GG-grand children and 48 GGG-grand children. Her husband, William Woodson Simmons in 1902 died in a fatal pistol duel on Wolf Creek, near Corona, Walker Co, AL ( southeast of Jasper, AL ). He is buried in the West Corona Cemetery. There are graves of several Picketts and possibly in nearby Gibson Hill Cemetery. I also have an old photo of either "Uncle Bud or Uncle Frank." They are standing in the photo in front of a clap board house with a boy in a buggy and two women by a gate to a "picket" fence with a tall man. As info, I have exchanged e-mail with another Pickett descendent, Evelyn Seagle, Montevallo, AL. She is descended also from James Pickett, brother of David. James had two sons, Braz and Frank Pickett ( Frank shown born Jan 8, 1860 - from the Pickett Bible ). Her Pickett file shows from Braz came Walter Pickett and Ola Mae Pickett. From Frank came Jackson Pickett and Lorene Pickett who married Otto Roman, Evelyn's mother and father. James was married Elizabeth Boothe, Mar 26 1843, Shelby Co. AL. Elizabeth Boothe is the daughter of Richard & Elizabeth ( Betsy ) Boothe. I have no record of Alpha Omega Carlyle, wife of John Ellis Pickett. I recall though my G-Mother mentioning there was an Indian link in the Pickett family. Have you searched the Guion Miller Roll Index? A proud second generation Victorian he grew up on Bay Street attending Oakland's Elementary and Victoria High School. Active in sports, an avid golfer throughout his life and a fine musician Harry was a member of the 5th Field Regiment R.C.A. reserve at the outbreak of WWII. He was called up in September 1939 and served at Fort Rod Hill, Aldershot, England and in Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany before returning to Victoria in early 1946. He was employed by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1947 retiring in 1984 after a 37-year career. Harry was a resident of Cadboro Bay and a sentinel of Camelot Road since 1955. Harry was a good man, strong in mind, body and character who approached all things in his life with force of purpose and a positive attitude. We who knew him were blessed by his good humour, his love and his generous spirit. He gave us all more than he took back. Harry, we are proud of the man you were and of the things you taught us. Know that you are loved and cherished always. Cremation and a family service will take place at a later date.
