    3. Fellow Listwatchers, I check my emails from the list daily and hope to find someone who has left info on my ancestor Lewis Pierce or his family and daily I am disappointed. I have written with the info that I had on him before but I figure I will run it up the flagpole one more time.... Every source I have seen says that Lewis was born ca1755 but as to where, I have seen everywhere from North Carolina to Ireland! The earliest evidence I have of him is that he is listed as a private in the 10nth NC Regiment during the Revolutionary War. He enlisted on 12 Apr, 1781 for a 12 month period but apparently deserted on 7 July, 1781. :-( He was a member of Lytle's Company during his service in case anyone has info about this unit. Next, I found him in Wilkes Co., Ga. He is listed on tax records from 1785-1793. In 1788, he received a headright grant for 200 acres in Wilkes Co. This land was included in the formation of Oglethorpe Co. Ga in 1793. He also owned land in Greene Co. which he sold to Richard Freeman on 22 Aug, 1801. He participated in the land lotteries of 1805 & 1807. He must have received land from one of them because he received a passport to cross the Creek Indian Nation on 30 Apr, 1810 and he is listed as living in Morgan Co. which was formed in 1807 from parts of Baldwin Co.. Baldwin Co. was formed in 1803 from land given out in the lottery of that year. Lewis is on the census of 1800 in Oglethorpe Co. but since the one for 1810 has been destroyed, I cannot see if he was listed on it in Morgan Co! I have no record of his movement from 1810 until 1819 when he appears in Covington Co. Ms. He is on the tax rolls and censuses from 1819 until his death there in 1833. He is shown on the tax rolls with his son Jeremiah, who moved to Mobile Co., Al in 1821, his son Lewis P. Pierce, who begins showing up on the tax rolls in 1824, and with a George & Joseph Pierce, of whom I'm not sure what relation to Lewis they were. His daughter, Nancy Ann Pierce, married Joseph Bridges in Georgia on 28 Apr, 1814. They moved to Covington Co., Ms sometime after 1830 and were still caring for Lewis' widow Ann in 1850. As for Lewis' wife, her maiden name was Ann Wooten and everyone guesses that they were married in North Carolina ca 1783, but I believe it was probably in Georgia as her father was Jeremiah Wooten whose LW&T is in Morgan Co, Ga in 1810! Ann lived to be 99 years old and died on 28 July, 1853. I know it seems like I have a lot of info on these people but I don't have some of the most important, like where & when they were born, who their parents were, and where they are buried. Any further information on any of these people would be very gratefully appreciated. Thank you to all you good Pierce's out there for your support! Sincerely, Michael S. Pierce
