I'll address the main family here. The "Peter Tufts House" in Medford, MA. was built by Peter1 (following) & became the home of Capt. Peter2. It is still standing. The lineage of this line is well researched in the early generations in New England, but I get into trouble with some of the children of Rev. Joshua4 below. Some went to SW New Brunswick & when I start following them, I have an urge to pull out the razor blades - it would make life so much easier.<g> Bradstreet & Cotton are well known early MA. names. Rev. John Tufts' nephew, Dr. Cotton Tufts (s/o Dr. Simon) was the doc who delivered later president, John Quincy Adams. John is Rev. John3 following. Some of this may be old hat to you, but I'll incl. it for new readers who may be interested. Peter1 Tufts (c. 1617 - 1700, to MA. c. 1634, later to Medford. MA. & Then Malden, MA.) m. Mary PIERCE. Her bro., Thos. Jr., was the forefather of US president, Franklin Pierce. Peter testified at the Salem witch trials & I think it was Seaborn Cotton's father, Rev. John, who was one of the judges (I stand to be corrected on John). | Capt. Peter2 Tufts (1648-1721) of Medford, MA. m2 Mercy, d/o Rev. Seaborn & Dorothy (BRADSTREET) COTTON. (Where do you think Seaborn Cotton was born?) Peter2 raised his nephew, James3 Jr., in the Peter Tufts house. James3 is my line through James4, Gershom5, who went to Halifax in 1749. Tufts Cove, Dartmouth, NS, is named for Gershom. Gershom & Joshua (following) are the progenitors of the NS Tufts. | Rev. John3 Tufts (1688/9-1750) m. Sarah, d/o Dr. Humphrey & Sarah (PIERCE) BRADSTREET. On a visit to Amesbury, MA., in 1990, I chanced upon his grave. He had also preached at Newburyport, MA. | Rev. Joshua4 Tufts (1716-1767) to Fort Cumberland, NS. 1760 from Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, m. Abigail ELLERY. He d. in Halifax and Abigail died there a week later. | William Ellery5 Tufts (1747-1826) m. Hannah WHITMAN. He d. Nictaux, NS. They had 9 children. | John Whitman6 Tufts (1774-1856) m. Phoebe Schofield of Horton, NS. Who were Phoebe's parents? I have a note (unproven) that her father was Arthur who d. 1819 at 106 years. John W. & Phoebe had: (all b. Albany, NS) | 1)Freeman b. 1803 m. Lucy Ann, d/o Timothy & Lucy Ann (BENNETT) THORPE 2)Mary (1804-1859) -DNM 3)Orenda (1806-1883) -DNM 4)Jemima b. 1808, d ? m.
