    3. I'm an old subscriber. This is a response to "old subscribers please post". My closest Pierce ancestor was my gg grandmother Nancy Ann Pierce of Greene County, Tennessee. She was b. 15 Jan 1839 in Tennessee, d. 22 Jul 1880 in Greene County, Tennessee, bu. Antioch Cemetery, Greene County, Tennessee. She m. my gg grandfather John Tivis Cox 23 Sep 1860 in Greene County, Tennessee. Nancy Ann Pierce was the daughter of James Pierce, and James Pierce is my brick wall. He was b. about 1804 and d. after 1860. With the help of a fellow Pierce researcher, I have recently come across some additional information about him. (Check out http://painter.vou.org/HmbyrptPrc.htm ) I already knew that James Pierce was married three times, and that his third wife was Experience (Spriddy) Wells. And I knew that my Nancy Ann Pierce was the daughter of either his first or second wife, probably his first. I now see that there is circumstantial evidence (still seeking proof) that his first wife was Anny Green, that his second wife was Mary (Polly) Doty, and that my Nancy Ann Pierce was the daughter of Anny Green. I have no information on Anny Green's parents. There is circumstantial evidence (still seeking proof) that Mary (Polly) Doty was the daughter of Ephraim Doty and Sarah (Sally) Cooper. I have no information on Experience (Spriddy) Wells' parents. In the censuses in which he appears (and which I have been able to find), James Pierce is reported as having been born in Tennessee. In the 1880 censuses in which his children appear (and which I have been able to find), their father is reported as having been born in Tennessee. Nevertheless, there is a tradition that James Pierce was born in England. I am seeking the parents and birth place for James Pierce. Any help would be appreciated, especially on the tradition that he was born in England. I don't know if the following is a Pierce story or a Cox story or a Nichols story or a Reneau story, but it's one of my family stories. I guess we can call it a Pierce story since the George Cox of whom I am going to speak was the grandson of Nancy Ann Pierce. After Nancy Ann Pierce died, John Tivis Cox married Martha P. Reneau. At the time, Martha P. Reneau was divorced from her first husband John H. Nichols. Also at the time, John Tivis Cox had a son George Jackson Cox who was 21 years old, and Martha P. Reneau had a daughter Clarissa Loretta (Rett) Nichols who was 11 years old. So George Cox and Rett Nichols were step-brother and step-sister. A year later, when George was 22 and Rett was 12, they were married. They had a long and happy marriage, and they were my father's Grandpa and Grandma Cox.
