I got a couple of note asking for where I got the Pearce Hall data. Here are some sources: The Pearce Genealogy book by Col. Frederick C. Pierce published in 1888 has this data on page 36: From the foregoing historical sketch of the English branch of the Percies it will be seen that Peter17 Percy(*) was son of Ralph16 Percy; he (Peter17) was born in 1447 and his descent is as follows from the first ancestor: Galfred1, William2, Alan3, William4, William5, Agnes6, Henry7, William8, Henry9, Henry10, Henry11, Henry12, Henry13, Henry14, Henry15, Ralph16. Peter17 Percy had a son Richard18. The father was standard barer to Richard the Third at the battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. Richard18 founded Pearce Hall in York, England, where he lived and died leaving an eldest son Richard19, Jr. Richard19, Jr. resided on the homestead of his father and had two sons Richard20, Jr., b. 1590, and William20. It was at this time that the spelling of the name in this branch was changed from Percy to Pearce. Thirty-one Generations, A Thousand Years of Percies and Pierces 972 to 1948 has the same data. The Pearces, Persons of Quality, by Jane Pearce has: The Percy family was taking no bows for a final curtain call, however. They were getting ready to change scenes. Peter Percy born in 1447 to Ralph1, was standard bearer to Richard the Third at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. Richard, Peter's son, founded Pearce Hall in York, England, where he lived and died leaving an eldest son, Richard Jr. Richard Jr., like many others of the Percy family, had watched with growing alarm as the titled Percies became more and more enmeshed in the intrigue and danger of English politics. Percy an honorable, name, was no longer safe to wear. Richard decided to change the spelling to Pearce. The final e would sound like the y, but the pronunciation would be slightly different. He summoned his sons William and Richard from Bristol. Pearce, Bartlett, Matthews, Smart, and Allied Families, by James Alonzo Matthews, 21. RICHARD PEARCE was the founder of PEARCE HALL at York, England, where he lived and died. He was the first to change the name to PEARCE, which name and way of spelling continued to within the last three quarters of a century. Since then some members of the family changed the name and used the form PIERCE. WWP Linda & Warren Pearce Colorado Springs CO 80919-4821
