Researching Philip HAMMON (b. abt. 1816 in VA) m. Sarah PEARCE (b. 18 March 1817 in Richland Co., OH). According to "Stones and Sites of Cedar County," both Philip and Sarah HAMMON are buried in Union Clear Creek Cem. Death record for Philip confirms last name as HAMMON. The 1860 census for Cedar County does not include a HAMMON but does list a Philip HAMMOND (age 44, b. VA), wife Sarah (age 43, b. OH), and son Jacob. The ages for both Philip and Sarah calculate out to their known dates of birth. An index for the 1870 Cedar Co. Census does not list a HAMMON, but does list Philip HAMMOND, still in Linn Township. The 1900 Cedar Co. census lists a Jacob A. HAMMOND (b. November 1854) residing in Linn Township. My ancestors (Pearce/Pierce) would marry into a HAMMOND family a few generations after the one in question. I think this is more than a coincidence. Is anyone else researching this family? or have any ideas on how you would proceed researching this? I am posting this to the rootsweb PIERCE, PEARCE, and HAMMOND boards as well so I apologize if you see this more than once. Mark Pierce San Francisco, CA
