    1. RE: [PIERCE-L] Multiple lists? Why?

    3. If I remember it correctly Duane Pierce (Webb Pierce) got pretty nasty with the old Pierce list administrator and was barred from the list. He then started the other Peirce/Pearce lists. This is just what I remember happening several years ago. I really don't intend to get into this much, but I say just ignore rude emails from him. And I really don't understand why he thinks a person can't convey information from another person's email on his lists to this list. It may be that they can find a link with those subscribed to this list. I do know that this list takes into consideration every spelling of the Pierce surname and I for one am only subscribed to this list. So if someone posts something to this list from the others that I haven't seen, then it could help me. I don't see the harm in it. I think that there are a great bunch of people here that can all benefit from any information that may give someone else a clue to break down their brickwall. I've never responded to any of these discussions before, but just wanted to reiterate when Brenda says that this list is intended for all Pierce spellings. Keep digging for those roots! Patty P.S. Brenda, is there a rootsweb rule about posting information from another list onto this one? I didn't think there is? And can it result in being barred from some lists? -----Original Message----- From: Marty Irons [mailto:k2mi@frontiernet.net] Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2002 3:20 PM To: PIERCE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PIERCE-L] Multiple lists? Why? After reading Webb Pierce's rules and regulations, I ask myself why is there more than one list for various spellings of PIERCE? I did not know that more than one such list existed. Having multiple lists makes it more difficult to post and to read messages that contain different spellings for the same surname. Published genealogies, NEHGR, LDS IGI and others group similar spellings together, and we all know that census takers couldn't spell very well anyway. I vote for sticking with one list for all variations of spelling of PIERCE, and since I started here I'll stay here. My two cents worth. Marty Listers Please Note, There is absolutely nothing wrong in posting a message regarding the PIERCE, PEARCE, PEIRCE surname at any time on any of the above lists, or all of them. What IS wrong, is taking someone else's message and posting it somewhere the originator did not intend it to go, or they would have placed it there themselves. Please do not make this a bigger issue that is already has been made by other list Admins. I thought a simple note to the guilty party would be sufficient to keep it from happening again. I even went to the trouble of sending it to her personally but she wants to share it with the world so I am sharing my response to all three lists as well. What happens on the PIERCE list is none of my concern, but as Admin of the PEARCE and PEIRCE lists, reposting someone's message that was posted only on the PEARCE list, to another list without the authors consent, will not be tolerated and if it happens again, the guilty party will be barred from said list.
