    1. [PIERCE-L & Variants ] Interesting Pearce Question
    2. Warren Pearce
    3. Hi As we all know there is some information saying that my James' brother, John, lived in N.C. for a short time and moved back to the R.I. area. There is data that a "John Pearce" married Polly McBride in N.C. I'm finding interesting conflicts and data gaps. The 1888 Pearce Genealogy book by Frederick Pierce, page 81, entry 68 states: 68. JOHN5 PEARCE (Samuel4, James3, George2, Richard1). b. Feb. 15, 1768; m. Nov. 27, 1785, Patience Arnold; m. 2nd, Dec. 17, 1794, Mary Luther, b. 1769, d. June 7, 1809; m. 3rd, 1809, Annie (???). John Pearce resided in Warren, R. I., with the exception of two years he was with his brother James in North Carolina, while a young man. Like his father he was a master builder. He erected not only fine residences but elegant churches in his home town and across the line in the old Bay State. He served his townspeople in offices of usefulness and trust and was by all regarded as an upright man and citizen. He d. Mar. 2, 1848. Ch.-- Seven Pierce Families, page 230, item number 339 says that John moved to N.C. The Wildbores in America, page 72, item E-570 includes John indicating that he married Patience Arnold. The Relationship Deed Book from Camden County, 1777 - 1821, has these entries mentioning John and Polly McBride/Pearce Book F, Pages 248, 288 & 289, 1794 has Polly Pearce as a daughter of Josiah McBride and Wife of John Pearce Book F, Page 246, 1794 has Polly Pearce, Wife of John Pearce Book G, Page 78, 1795 has Polly McBride as an heir to Josiah McBride and sold land to James Pearce Book L Page 117 1807 has Polly McBride as a daughter of Josiah McBride Book N, Page 55, 1795 has McBride/Polly as a Niece of McBride/Elisha Now, here is the fun. The 1888 book has John marrying these people in R.I.: Patience Arnold on Nov. 27, 1785; Mary Luther on Dec. 17, 1794 who died on June 7, 1809, and Annie in 1809. The N.C. data documents a "Polly Pearce" as the wife of John Pearce in 1794. However, she appears to be identified as Polly McBride in 1795 and 1807. So she was still alive in 1807. I wonder why she is identified as Polly McBride, not Polly Pearce in 1795 and 1807. Could it be that John came to N.C. after Patience died and married Polly prior to 1794, divorced her in 1794, returned to R.I. to marry Mary Luther in December 1794 or could it be that we are dealing with 2 different John Pearces?????????
