    1. [PIERCE-L] Do Not Delete "Sulfnbk.exe" from your windows Directory
    2. Brenda Pierce
    3. There is a message traveling around that some of you have received showing the message at the bottom of this email -- Pls read the following and don't delete your file unless you find it in your email as an attachment. NOTE: NO COMMENTS ARE NECESSARY IN RE TO THIS, PLEASE DON'T START A LONG DISCUSSION ON VIRUS AS THAT IS NOT WHAT WE ARE HERE FOR. If you do have a comment then please address to me rather than list. NAME: Sulfnbk.exe virus hoax ALIAS: Long File Name Backup utility virus hoax In April-May 2001 there appeared a hoax message concerning a new virus that was reportedly discovered in Windows' Long File Name Backup utility SULFNBK.EXE. We checked several versions of this utility from Windows installations and found no infection in it. However, some e-mail worms (for example, Magistr) might sometimes send an infected SULFNBK.EXE in an e-mail attachment. Bottom line: if you get SULFNBK.EXE in an e-mail attachment, it's probably a virus. If you find it from your Windows directory, it's probably not. What to do if you already found SULFNBK.EXE from your Windows\system directory and deleted it? Not to worry, most users never need this tool. But if you run into problems with long filenames and start to see things like "FILENA~1.TXT" in your Windows Start Menu, you might need the tool. In that case, follow these Microsoft instructions to restore it: http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q301316 Here's the original hoax message: ---Begin Hoax Text ------------------------------------------- Virus SULFNBK.EXE Instructions to find and delete it. 1. Start and got to Find Files. Type the name: SULFNBK.EXE 2. If it is there, open Windows Explorer, look for the file where you found it, and then delete. Don't left click and don't open it even if there is a fire, o.k.? 3. Just delete it. 4. Mine was in Windows/Command. 5. The person wh passed this warning to me found it in Windows/Config. And Norton did not discover it... ---End Hoax Text ------------------------------------------- Please ignore this hoax and don't pass it on. It should be noted that Magistr virus-worm can choose SULFNBK.EXE file as its victim, infect it and send it out. So if you find this file attached to an e-mail message please delete it, never run the attachment. Thanks to R.Engelander for the translation of this hoax. There are 2 minor variants of this hoax: ---Begin Hoax Text ------------------------------------------- Dear everyone: Sorry about this, but it seems that there is a nasty virus going around, but you can fix it if you act fast. Please act URGENTLY. The virus could be in your computer files now, dormant but will become active on June 1. Please follow directions below to check if you have it and to remove it now. I found it and removed it today. It was brought to my attention today that a virus is in circulation via email. I looked for it and to my surprise I found it on mine. Please follow the directions and remove it from yours NOW!!!!! I do not know how long it has been on my computer, but no Virus software can detect it. It will become active on 1 June 2001. It might be too late by then. It wipes out all files and folders on the hard drive. This virus travels thru E-mail and migrates to the 'C:\windows\command' folder. To find it and get rid of it off of your computer, do the following. Go to the "START" button. Go to "FIND" or "SEARCH" Go to "FILES & FOLDERS" Make sure the find box is searching the "C:" drive. Type in; SULFNBK.EXE Begin search. If it finds it, highlight it. Go to 'File' and delete it. Close the find Dialog box Open the Recycle Bin Find the file and delete it from the Recycle bin You should be safe. The bad part is: You need to contact everyone you have sent ANY E-mail to in the past few months. Many major companies have found this virus on their computers. Please help your friends !!!!!!!! Do not rely on your anti-virus software. McAfee and Norton cannot detect it because it does not become a virus until June 1st. Whatever you do, do not open the file!!! ---End Hoax Text ------------------------------------------- The second variant: ---Begin Hoax Text ------------------------------------------- VIRUS COULD BE IN YOUR COMPUTER It will become activate on June 1st and will delete all files and folders on the hard drive. No Anti-Virus software can detect it because it doesn't become a VIRUS until 1/6/2001. It travels through the e-mail and migrate to your computer. To find it please follow the following directions: Go To "START" button Go to "Find" or "Search" Go to files and folders Make sure to search in drive C Type in; SULFNBK.EXE Begin Search If it finds it, highlight it and delete it Close the dialogue box Open the Recycle Bin Find the file and delete it from the Recycle Bin You should be safe. The bad part is you need to contact everyone you sent ANY e-mail to in the past few months. Many major companies have found this virus on their computers. Whatever you do, DO NOT open the file. ---End Hoax Text ------------------------------------------- If you receive these hoax messages, please ignore them. [Description created: May-August 2001]

    1. [PIERCE-L] Hotace PIERCE and Sarah Ann SMITH
    2. I am researching Horace Pierce b. 1809 Homer NY d. 1888 Middleport NY, m. Sarah Ann Smith 1835 (b. 1809 MA). Horace is the descendant of Thomas Pierce (1583 England - 1666 MA) through Thomas Jr., Samuel Sr., Samuel Jr., Seth Sr., Seth Jr., and Elijah Pierce and Patty Moulton who were his parents. I don't know where Horace and Sarah were married and I don't have any information on her family at all. Horace and Sarah had two children: Elizabeth Newton Pierce who m. Ezra Briggs Delano in Royalton NY and Moulton N. Pierce who m. Mary Swain. I am also curious about Elizabeth's middle name of Newton. In my database I have no Newton's in her line that I know of, so perhaps Newton is a name from her mother's family. Does anyone know if Patty Moulton was the dau. of Robert Moulton and who was her mother? Thanks for any help and/or leads. Lane Benet

    1. [PIERCE-L] Pearce family lineage
    2. Holly Snead
    3. Jim, Am not sure if I have conversed with you in the past, but our Pearce families both connect with John Pearce, Mason. My line connects with his son, Daniel, grandson, Nathan, married to Abigail Spink, and then to his son, Benoni, married to Mehitable Walker. Benoni had ten children, you probably have all their families listed in your records. His son, Nathan, married to Rebecca Chase, is my fifth great grandfather. At the time of their marriage, Nathan changed his name to Parce deleting the "e" becoming Nathan Parce. Nathan had ten children, Benoni, Justus, Abigail, Ephraim, John, Nathan, Jr., Hiram, Polly, Royal and Ransom. Their son, Benoni Parce married Dolly Casa, and they had five children, Cyrenus, Hannah, Earl, Alexander and Mary Jane. Cyrenus married Sabra Sutton and they had nine children. Twins Almearn and Elam, Nancy, Frank, John, Emily Anne, Melissa, Jimey, and Elvira Jennett. Almearn married Jemima Shaw, twin sister to Anna Shaw, who married Elam, and they had five children, Fremont, Daniel, Frances, Maude, and Lulu. Fremont married Anna Hilpl, from Germany, and had two sons, James D, and Ralph R. Parce. Ralph Parce married Florence Dansberry and had one son James W. Parce, married to Ruth Doremus, my parents. Cyrenus and Sabra Sutton Parce where both born in Chenango Co., New York and migrated to Grant Co., Wisconsin some time after 1842. The family remained there until my father went into service in WW 11 and resettled in NY (Westchester Co) after the war. My sisters Marjorie and Donna, and I were born in New York and they remain in New Jersey and Philadelphia, with their families. I am living in Clermont, Ga. with my family. If there is any info you would like on Benoni's line, or the Parce branch, I am happy to fill in this branch of our tree. Have been trying to find all the Parce lineage, some migrated to Michigan, South Dakota, Colorado, Florida, and elsewhere. From family legend, if the name is Parce, there is a connection back to Nathan and Rebecca, and so far all the Parces I have gotten in touch with have been able to trace their lineage back to them. Let me know if you find anything on John Pearce, Mason's line. I have heard some stories that he and the other John Pearce are related, that John Pearce, the mason's father, and Richard Pearce, father of the other John Pearce, were brothers, but have found nothing to validate this. Have also heard that John Pearce, the mason, with two brothers, and parents, traveled from Wales to Boston, and that the father died on board the ship. The father's name apparently was also John. At some point John Pearce, the mason migrated to Rhode Island, settling there. I would like to find out if any of this is accurate, and if there is a connection to the other Pearce families that settled the area. Keep in touch if you find anything to add to the family tree. 1. [PIERCE-L] Warning about Virus.
    2. Hi this is Don Fisher. If you receive a email from me with an attachment on it do not open. It would show up as You_Are_Fat!.MP3.scr this is a W32/BadTrans@MM Virus. It affects your Windows System Files. I was told that it only affected OutLook Express Program users, but it affected my machine. I think we have gotten rid of it with McAfee Anti-Virus Program, but it erased the Kernel32.exe File, so my machine is still not working at 100%. I don't know it it sent out Emails or not. Please Let Me Know. Thanks, Don Fisher

    1. [PIERCE-L] James Pierce-Kent Co., Michigan
    2. >From San323@aol.com Nov. 29, 2001 Am looking for more information on a James E. Pierce On their marriage record he was 24, b. in Solon Twp. Kent Co., was a laborer, parents names weren't shown. He married Hulda/Almeda Baker, age 25, b. Brant Co., Canada Feb. 12, 1880 in Cannon Twp., Kent Co., Michigan. She was the daughter of Israel & Eliza Baker of Cannon Twp. Kent co. Their witnesses were Reed Blakely of Courtland Twp., and Ettie [possibly short for Rosetta, her sister] Baker of Cannon Twp. Kent. I found an Almeda Pierce, b. 1855 [right year] servant for the Wm. H. Peck family on the June 28, 1880 Caledonia Twp. Kent Co. census on pg 195 but haven't found James on that census. We know they headed north and that he possibly worked in logging industry. Their daughter Pearl, was b. Aug. 1885 in Reed City, Osceola Co. and son William was b. May 1887 place unkn. Children were living with maternal grandmother, Eliza Baker-Sullivan on 1900 census. Then Pearl lived with her great uncle Wm. T. Baker until she was married in 1904 in Lake City, Missaukee Co. MI. Their daughter, Pearl and her husband moved down to Calhoun and Eaton Co. about 1921. This family has more twists and turns and road blocks then most. We know they were still living in 1927 as are shown on 4 generation photo with my brother in-law as a toddler but can't find them on soundex or census. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've sent for death records from following counties; Eaton Osceola, Missaukee & Wexford none found, also Lansing for James 1929-1931 none found. Sandy Phillips

Could anyone please tell me if (and where) there is a place by the name of Flannagh in Ireland? Apparently my ggg grandparents, George & Mary Pierce were supposed to have lived there. They had nine children: Alexander, Hugh, Henry, George, John, Robert, Mary Ann, Margaret and Catherine who all emigrated together to Canada. I am descended from Henry and would like to find out further information about his parents/grandparents and if there were any other siblings that might have stayed in Ireland. Thank you very much. 3. Since there has been a tremendous activity with Pearce/Pierce lookups, can someone help me? My hubby descends from Alfred Dixon (Dickson?) Pearce, b. 1819 in Benton Co., TN. He married Elizabeth Caroline Beavers there on 4 Mar 1841. He d. in 1895 in Ouachita Co., AR. He is supposed to be the son of John Pearce, Sr., b. ca. 1781 in NC. I have no proof of such, though. Alfred D. Pearce shows up on the Ouachita Co., AR tax rolls beginning in 1849. Can anyone out there help me with this family, particularly in reversing the lineage??? Harriet DeLaughter
