    1. [PIERCE-L & Variants ] LOOKING FOR INFORMATION
    2. Richardson, Sherry L.
    3. I am Sherry Richardson, looking for information on the Pierce Family. Am just beginning family tree and know very little about this side of the family. My maternal grandmother is Estella (Nellie) Mae Pierce, b. February 4, 1889, d. November 11, 1968, in Beverly, Kansas. Her parents were Edwin Pierce and Florence "Muzzie" (do not know her maiden name). Have no info on him, but Muzzie died August 21, 1959. They had 5 children: Beryl, Edwin, Estella, Sylvia and Freddie. Edwin left Florence after the children were born and she raised them on her own and worked in Salina, Kansas. My grandmother married Grant Tozier and they moved to a farm outside Beverly, Kansas and had 3 daughters, Carol, Shirley & Mildred. Beryl married Earl Cave and they lived in Boulder, Colorado (no children). Edwin lived in Hays, Kansas (I don't believe he ever married). Sylvia died as a young girl from appendicitis and Freddie died as a baby. I believe Florence's mother's nickname was Lizzie, but that's all the information I have on this family. Thanks for any help you can give!

    1. [PIERCE-L & Variants ] Franklin Arthur Pierce(Mass,Canada. Michigan)
    2. Franklin Arthur was born ABT Feb. 9 1853-1855. All his documents says he was born in Mass, except. His death CERT says Derby, CT. July 4, 1878, he married IDA Mae Blackman in Bay County(Standish) Michigan. Aug. 27 1883 he married Lucinda Umphrey. Children: Emery Hiram,1st wife, 2nd wife Bernice, Franklin and Emma. All born in Michigan Story has it that when Franklin was young (under 10) his mother died and his father remarried and moved to Canada. Franklin grew up in Canada and at ABT the age of 17 he moved to Michigan, married and raised his family. I believe these people are related to Franklin as one of the sons stood up in Franklin's marriage: Betsy Pierce born 1829 in Mass and lived for time in Michigan. Her sons were Charles D. born 1855 in Wis. Second son Lincoln born 1860 in Illinois. I found a Betsy and Lincoln Pierce living in Derby, CT 1890. Betsy was married to a Jonathan H. Pierce. Jonathan H. Pierce born in Mass 1822, 1st wife Nancy, children: Bill 1850, Abby 1862, Frank 1863 and Elizabeth 1863 living in Derby, CT. Remarried a Betsy Pierce. I also found a Lincoln Pierce living in Derby Since on Franklin death CERT it says he was born in Derby, CT (No records found in Derby stating this) That maybe Betsy Pierce moved to Derby, CT. Married Jonathan Pierce is the connection? why it says Franklin was born in CT. Maybe Betsy was Franklin's step mother and moved there with her son Lincoln???? Linda Benzin NJ

    2. Bob Waterous
    3. Hi Gerry, Your inquiry caught my attention in that I too have a Martin PIERCE brickwall. Since given names often stay in the family, I can't help but wonder if there is a connection to your Martin.. Searching for ancestors & descendants of Martin & Esther PIERCE. According to IL census records they were born in MA ca 1790. I have been unable to identify this particular couple as my line for certain but according to Elder Davis Dimock's record of baptism, marriages and deaths 1803 - 1860 [Tree Talks, June '86, Broome Co., p. 97], "Martin (Martain) PIERCE (PEARCE) married Esther Peckins in Broome County in 1815. They resided in Lisle." The children of my Martin & Esther were Chapman, Parmer & (H)ellen. born between 1820 & 1835 in NY. They settled in DuPage County, IL in the late 1830s. Chapman's descendants are unknown. (H)ellen married Milo BUTTERFIELD. They had six children born between 1855 and 1869. Parmer married Ruth WIGHTMAN in 1846 in IL. They had four children, Esther A, George N, Mary E and Franklin born between 1847 and 1853. Mary E is my ggmother. Any information regarding this family is appreciated. Bob Gerry Pierce Yost wrote: Hello, I am seeking info on my 2 Pierce ancestors. I can find little or nothing on each. 1. [PIERCE-L & Variants ] Old Pearce
    2. Warren Pearce
    3. A few years ago, I wouldn't have had a very old Pearce to claim. I had hit a wall with 4 Pearces (Samuel b 1812, Jeremiah b 1817, John b 1800, and Polly b 1796) who moved to Henderson County, Tennessee from some where in North Carolina around 1830. Samuel and Polly stayed in Henderson County. John and Jeremiah moved to NE Arkansas around 1860. Samuel's son, Jeremiah Dillon Pearce moved to Lonoke, Arkansas after the war where my Grand Father Hubert was born. Then I got E-mail from Martha Pearce in South Mills N.C. responding to a query I had posted. She connected my Pearces to her Camden County, N.C. Pearces. She had data on James Pearce who was born around 1765 near Little Compton, Rhode Island and moved to Camden County around 1690. That was really neat. She had data saying that my 4 Pearces left 3 brothers behind in South Mills when they moved to Tennessee. Next, Martha then introduced me to Tom Melson who had traced our James back through several Pearces in Rhode Island to Richard Pearce born about 1615 in Briston England. That was really neat too. When I compared Tom's data to the Pearces in "Pearce, Bartlett, Matthews, Smart, and Allied Families", by James Alonzo Matthews. I got the surprise of my genealogy life. Tom's oldest Pearces were at the bottom of the tree in the book. "Pearce Genealogy ...", By Frederick Pierce published in 1888 provided a lot of the same data tying my line back to the early R.I. and Percy folk. I would not be surprised to find that James Matthews used Frederick Pierce's book for a source. Also, the DAR library provided additional data on my Pearce folk in Rhode Island during the Colonial period. Richard Pearce (generation 21 in the Mathews book) was the founder of Pearce Hall at York, England, where he lived and died. He was the first to change the spelling of Percy name to Pearce. The oldest Percy-Pearce in the Matthews book is Grover Percy of Somerset who was herald in the reign of Queen Elizabeth. He was born in the early 900s. Its worth noting that a lot of the Rhode Island data interchanges the Pearce, Pierce, and Pearse. However, Pearce is the most common spelling for my crowd. Its interesting that a couple of the books say that Richard Percy changed his name to Richard Pearce in 1500 and founded Pearce Hall. I've never seen anything indicating the start of the Pierce spelling or what it means to found a Hall. Does anyone have any data. My biggest gap is a lack of Original Proof data on James' children who were born in Camden County, N.C. and moved to Tennessee. Does anyone have any data??? The DAR and LDS libraries have a lot of good books on the Pearce folk in R.I. during the Colonial period. WWP Linda & Warren Pearce Colorado Springs CO 80919-4821

    3. My oldest PIERCE is James Samuel PIERCE. He was born 24 March 1872 in Elyria, OH. His father is my brick wall! I do not know his first name for sure, but it possibly was James also. I am guessing he was born in the 1840's-1850's and have some evidence indicating he was born in NY. He owned/ managed/ ran(?) a Harness Shop in Chicago Illinois. He also spent time working in lumber camps. He is believed to have died in the Chicago Fire in October 1871. He married Anne GILMORE who was born in Scotland, but raised most of her life in WI. She was pregnant with James Samuel at the time of her husband's death. Anne and James Samuel moved to back to Waukesha County, WI, and this is where James Samuel grew up. James Samuel married Helen (Nellie) GOWANS in Waukesha County, WI. During the time they lived there, Helen gave birth to 4 sons: Frank, Willie, Baby, & Allie. In 1905 they moved to Taylor County, WI and had one more son while living there: Roy. Helen died when the children were all very young. James Samuel remained in Taylor County, WI for the rest of his life. He dug wells and worked in a saw mill. He is buried in Taylor County, WI. The only other bit of information I have to share is that my line of Pierce's may possibly be of Irish descent. Any help of any kind will be welcomed and greatly appreciated. Hoping to find a connection some day. Sincerely, Lorrie Schneck
