    1. [PIERCE-L & Variants ] Frank W. Pearce
    2. FRANK, IKE AND ALICE (Frank W. Pearce, talking about his father, Isaac Thomas Pearce, and his mother, Alice Moss Pearce, both of whom are buried in the Ahoskie Cemetery) ~ My father was Isaac (Ike) Thomas Pearce (1875-1959). He married Alice Moss (1873-1935). My father was raised on a farm (in upper Bertie County, NC). When he was about 18, he left home to see what the world was like. He joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Hamilton, in Brooklyn, NY. He was injured while in the Army. While he was in the hospital, some girls came from the church to visit the sick and the soldiers. One of the girls had not been in the United States very long ~ Alice Moss, who was from Queenstown, Cork County, Ireland. She met and married Isaac Thomas Pearce. Soon after they were married they left New York and moved to Hertford County, North Carolina, where Esther, Annie and I were born. I was told that I was born at Tunis, NC in Hertford County (in 1902), where the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad crossed the Chowan River. My father was the coal and water tender for the railroad at that time, and he made 40 cents a day. Later we moved to Suffolk, VA. When I was about seven, I went on a fishing trip with him. He had a cabin sailboat with a cookstove, and bunks to sleep on. We went out from Suffolk down the Nansemond River to Hampton Roads and fished all week. When we got home we were both sick. He had typhoid fever and I had malaria. My father was a farmer and worked as a carpenter when he was not busy on the farm. Money was hard to get in those days. When I had a penny, I thought I had money. Eggs were 24 cents per dozen, so I would get an egg or two and take them to the store for candy or cakes. We moved from Suffolk to Portsmouth about the year 1909. I had a paper route and made one dollar and 50 cents per week when I was in the fifth grade at school. I really had money in those days. I bought a used bicycle. I would spend a nickel each day at school for a half of a pie, which was a good pie, and that was about all you would eat with one sandwich for lunch. Later when I was 16 I got my first job during the summer vacation, and I made 10 cents per hour. One dollar for a 10-hour day. After that I went to work as an apprentice in the US Navy Yard in Portsmouth, VA. As an apprentice I worked at my trade and went to school for four years. One day a week I would attend classes for eight hours. This education was equivalent to two years in college. After serving my apprenticeship and one year as a mechanic, I was laid off. Ship work was poor at that time. It was then that I decided to go into refrigeration work. I got a job with Horne Ice Cream Company in Norfolk, VA and continued in refrigeration until I retired. One night just before going to work with the ice cream company, I went to visit my sister Esther. A girl was visiting her, with her uncle Charles Gibbins, who we knew. The girl's name was Edith Louise Dunn from Norwalk, Connecticut. I thought she was real nice, and with her being a Yankee I thought it would be exciting to take her out to the movies. I got my sister to ask her as I was too bashful. We went to the movies one night and a dance another night. Then she had to go home to Connecticut. We wrote a few letters to each other. Christmas time was near, and I did not want to buy her a present, and I did not want her to buy me a present, so I stopped writing. After Christmas, her uncle Charles Gibbins went up to Connecticut to visit his people and saw (her). She had bought me a Christmas present before I stopped writing to her. The present had my initials engraved on it, and she did not know what to do with it. She decided to send it to me by her uncle. When he returned home, he gave me the present. Well, I thought about it, and came to the conclusion that this girl liked me, and I had never had a girl to like me before. I went to Connecticut to see her, and later married her. We had planned to live in Norfolk, VA but to please her mother, I stayed in Connecticut for about three years and worked for Polly Refrigeration Company. Our oldest daughter was born in Norwalk, Connecticut. We moved to Salisbury, MD I worked with Southern Dairies. Our other two daughters were born in Salisbury. Later we moved to Greensboro, NC and I worked with Southern Dairies. Later we moved to Raleigh NC and I worked with Pine State Creamery Company until retirement, Dec. 31, 1964, at the age of 62. ~~~~~~~~

    1. [PIERCE-L & Variants ] OUR PIERCE PUZZLE SOLVED!!
    2. Brenda Pierce
    3. I have been sitting here for quite a bit with Chuck telling me what to write, and trying to figure out how do you say "thank you" to someone that has just handed you the "sun, moon and the stars" and totally made yesterday and today one of the most thrilling in our lives! There is really no way I know to properly say "thanks" for the hard work and the mind power .... but I will give it a shot here. Thanks to two wonderful people on this list, we now know who our Bartow Pierce of Georgia's parent's are and who is brother and sister are, and a whole lot more ..... http://www.ldpierce.com/johnrpierce.html We know all of this thanks to DAN PIERCE for all of his researching and digging through heaven only knows how many records and to L.D. (DIAZ) for his continued support and help over several years and for forwarding my help letter to Dan and for all of his hard work -- (take a look at the link and you'll see what I mean).... The background to this is I sent a cryptic message to L. D. back in December of last year asking him to look through his information and I had found a record that did pan out and one that did not, and I had a question about the one that was in another area - L. D. forwarded it onto Dan - and Dan did ALOT of research and with some information from another researcher that found Bartow's brother in Lumpkin County, and Dan found next door to them was Bartow living with his mother and step-father, his father having died during the Civil War. Dan's BIG DISCOVERY THIS WEEK THAT CLINCHES IT is that he found a deed in Salt Lake that mentioned where the grandfather gave land to his daughter in law and her children - and named them. Dan found part of this back when I was traveling all over the place and my email went haywire, so I was unaware until he found more this week. Here's our story: (But look at the website - it is much more clear than what I am writing below). Chuck's father was James Richardson Pierce who was married to Jennie Mae Baxter - James Richardson Pierce's parents were: Bartow was married to Vina C Walch in Cherokee County, Georgia - Bartow's parents were (I am loving knowing this...) Thanks to LD we know that .... Nancy J. and John R.3 Pierce (Andrew Jackson2, Reuben1) was born 1838 in Lumpkin Co., GA, and died 1863-1864 in R Road Montgomery. He married Nancy Jane Wimpey.-You can see how they tie into L.D.'s line here .... http://www.ldpierce.com/johnrpierce.html -- and http://www.ldpierce.com/andrew.html#one -- <thank you LD!!>... The part I would never have figured out is that Nancy had remarried to a Millwood - and they were living next door to Bartow's brother (they being the brother Archibald and his wife). This certainly opens a whole new can of worms - because there were the 3 of them Bartow, Archibald and George Ann plus the half sibling Millwoods, but what a wonderful can of worms to be opened -- We would love to give OUR THE LIST HERO AWARD to -- DAN PIERCE -- a SUPER HUGE hero's award -- FOR WITHOUT ALL of his hard work and wonderful mind putting all this together, we might never have known any of this ..... and The REALLY GREAT NEWS (at least to Chuck) <grin> is that he and L.D. <DIAZ> are cousins. (I am very thrilled as well, and if you haven't viewed L.D.'s, Dan's and works - please take a look at L.D.'s site it is absolutely the greatest). -- http://www.ldpierce.com -- be sure to take a look at the http://www.ldpierce.com/johnrpierce.html page so you can see how all this fits together as I probably totally confused everyone with the above. So folks, you have the greatest researchers here on this list that I think you can possibly find anywhere!!! The information they have ferretted out complete with sources to their work is phenomenal. When we started on this line we did not know Bartow's name at all - not his first name, and is it turns out it is very difficult because it is listed as Bartow J. H. some places, J. H. B. in other places and of course the last name is Pierce, Pearce, Peirce, etc. So this has not been an easy road to follow and without Dan's work and L.D.'s we would never have put all this together. So with all that .... DAN -- YOU ARE DEFINITELY OUR HERO AND WE WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL TO YOU.... LD - YOU TOO ARE OUR HERO -- I AM AFRAID YOUR WEBSITE IS GOING TO BE INUNDATED WITH OUR CLAN VYING IN LINE TO SEE IT. IT'S A GREAT DAY HERE IN ALPHARETTA... THANKS MUCH GUYS -- WE OWE THIS WONDERFUL DAY WHICH WILL ALWAYS BE FOREMOST IN OUR MINDS TO YOU ..... So, AGAIN .... PLEASE EVERYONE GIVE DAN A SUPER ROUND OF APPLAUSE AND ONE FOR LD --- YOU GUYS ARE THE GREATEST .... Dan resides in California and L.D. is back in Texas now. Dan's website -- http://home.attbi.com/~tworun/famhist/pierce/index.htm is excellent as well .... Dan -- I hope you will post and tell them how your line fits into here -- is it thru Andrew's wife or am I mistaken? THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU -- A MILLION TIMES OVER Brenda & Chuck Pierce

    3. Hi, My name is Ali Ingle, I'm doing this research for a dear friend who is 76 years old and terrified of the computer. Earl Ward Pierce is the father of this friend, on her birth certificate his age is listed as 21. So he was born about 1905 in Fitzgerald, Twigg Co GA. His daughter, the one I'm submitting the query for is Pauline Louise (Pierce) Anderson. She was born 8 Jul 1926 in Los Angeles CA. Her mother is Dorothy Louise Becker, b. abt 1907 Pueblo CO. If the names sound familiar I would appreciate any leads. Pauline has a tumor in her eye (in remission at this time) which causes lapses in memory. She thinks she saw him once when she was five and he visited her grandparents farm. All she wants to find out is if she has any half siblings still living. Thanks for any help, Ali Ingle willowdancer72@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? U2 on LAUNCH - Exclusive greatest hits videos http://launch.yahoo.com/u2

    3. Hi, this is my first message to the list, I hope I can finally get past my brick walls! I am trying to research my father's family, the furthest I have gotten is my great grandfather, Henry Pierce. He married Dora White (1/2 cherokee indian, we think)DOB: 1/26/1900, DOD: 12/1987, There children were: Odell Pierce, Leonard Pierce, Francis Pierce, and my grandfather, L.C. Pierce. My aunt has stated that his name was Louie Cleo, but my research has shown that it was more likely Luia Cleophus, as this is the only person at all in the SSDI that matches all my criteria. He was born May 27, 1924, and died January 1987- Cushing, Payne Co. Oklahoma. He married Margaret M. Courtney (or Mohler) DOB-1/11/1928; DOD-7/15/1995 she is buried in Euchee Valley Memorial Park in Cushing Ok. The children of LC and Margaret are: David Ron Terry Ann Diane Debby One other tidbit: LC had some sort of CB shop in Downtown Cushing If any of this sounds familiar, or you have information on this line, please contact me at: m_pierce@direcway.com Thanks Melissa Pierce-Danysh

    1. [PIERCE-L & Variants ] Pearce stuff

    3. Hi All Its snowing outside. Happily, not inside! Some time ago I submitted an application to the Alden Kindred of America society (Mayflower) based on connections to John Alden via Samuel Pearce's (b 1733 in Mass. d 1793 in R.I.) wife Betty Simmons (b 1733, d 1783). Her parents trace to both John Alden and Richard Warren. Properly, the society needs good proof. I submitted all the stuff I had expecting the primary problem to be proof that my Samuel Pearce (b 1812 in N.C. d 1876 in Tenn.) who moved from N.C. to Tennessee around 1830 was the son of James Pearce (b 1765 in R.I. d around 1840 in N.C.) who lived in Camden County, N.C. All I could provide was the 1850 Tennessee census data that said he was born in N.C. and the some letters that Martha gave me that he wrote to from Henderson County, Tennessee to his brother in South Mills, Camden County, N.C. along with the shared family names. To my happiness, that was considered good enough. To my surprise, they did not accept that my James in N.C. is the son of the Samuel who lived in R.I. All I submitted was the documents that say that Samuel's son James moved to N.C. Properly, they say that this James could be one of the other James Pearces in N.C. I have the copies of 2 documents that Phyllis Pearce sent me. One says that James Pearce of Camden County N.,C. sold land in Warren R.I. from his father's estate to John Pearce in 1799 and that John lives in Warren R.I. However, the father is not named. The other says that Samuel Pearce the son of Samuel Pearce sold land in Warren R.I. to John Pearce who lives in Warren R.I. in 1796. I have good R.I. documents saying that Samuel (b 1733) had sons Samuel, John, and James. However, there are still some gaps from a Formal Proof aspect. Does anyone have any good data on the James that moved from R.I. to N.C.? WWP Linda & Warren Pearce Colorado Springs CO 80919-4821

    1. RE: [PIERCE-L & Variants ] My Oldest Pierce - Morgan Pierce b. 1823 MO d. 1885 MO
    2. Archer, Patricia E.
    3. Brenda, Thanks for the information. Yes, I do have Morgan Pierce on the 1850 Census of Lincoln County, MO. He married his wife, Martha Jane Hines, Nov. 1, 1846 in Lincoln County, and they appear on the census there. They then moved to Scott County, Arkansas by 1860 and appear on the 1860 Scott County, Arkansas census, but Morgan's name was misspelled, he is listed as Morgan Price instead of Pierce. But it is him and his family. I do not have Morgan Pierce on an 1870 census or an 1880 census. If anyone has this information, I could really use it. I do know that he moved back to Lincoln County, Missouri about 1870, perhaps he is listed on a census somewhere between Scott County, Arkansas and Lincoln County, Missouri for that year, as he was probably on his way back to Missouri at the time. He is not on the 1870 Lincoln County census, but does appear in a tax book for 1870, entered as March of 1870 in Lincoln County, MO. I do know that his youngest son, Vade Pierce was born in! Lincoln County, MO in July 1871. Morgan's wife Martha was supposed to have died about 1872. Stories say that she was buried at the mouth of Honeycomb Cave, but I do not know where that is. One relative sent me on a wild goose chase to Pocohontas, Arkansas saying it was there, but when I search that area, and surrounding counties there, I found that there was no cave of that name. Morgan Pierce should be in Lincoln County, Missouri in the 1880 census. His daughter Lydia Pierce married first to Bernard Patrick Flanagan on Jan. 10, 1884 in Lincoln County, MO. Morgan died March 13, 1885 in Lincoln County, Missouri and was buried just east of Cuivre River State Park, north of Highway 47. His obituary is as follows: Troy Free Press (Troy, Lincoln Co., MO) Fri., 20 Mar. 1885 Chain Links MR. MORGAN PIERCE died last Friday of chronic Bright's disease, caused by taking half a teacupful of turpentine about two years ago. The immediate cause of death was uraemic coma, in which state he gave up the ghost, quietly, resistlessly and without knowing it, and had reached the yonder shore of Jordan and the Gates Ajar ere he was aware that the undulations of the sable stream he had entered several hours before had heralded his approach and that the judgement bar was at hand. -- Preston. Troy Free Press (Lincoln Co., MO) Fri., 27 March 1885 Chantilly Chatter MR. MORGAN PIERCE, of Bobb's Creek, aged about 65 years, died on the 13th inst., and his remains were interred at the old Whitlege place near town. Mr. Pierce was noted for the great number of rails he made, and ecomium that can be said of few. I've been told that taking turpentine was a cure for worms back in those days, but I don't know why in the world he would have drank a half teacup full! Anyway, if anyone has him in an 1870 or 1880 census, I'd appreciate it. It could be that he was in St. Charles County too, but really he should've been in Lincoln County. Or it could be that he was just missed on the census, or is in someone else's home. I do have a photograph of him, probably taken in the early 1870s in St. Charles, down on Main Street at a studio below the old opera house owned by R. Darnell. That photo can be viewed at the Lincoln County website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~molincol/molincoln.htm ,look under Heritage Photo Album, Morgan Pierce. Some corners of the picture have broken off over the years, and the bottom corner that is missing used to say St. Charles there. Any help in located him on the 1870 or 1880 census would be greatly appreciated. His daughter Lydia died in 1917 according to information I have, so she wouldn't be listed on a 1920 census, but she should be on a 1900 and 1910 census, possibly in Arkansas or Oklahoma. I do not know at what point she with her husband, Jesse Hamilton, moved to Oklahoma, but I'm told she died there in 1917. Thanks so much for all of your help. You can view my previous message I posted below. Does anyone have any ties to Lydia (Pierce) Flanagan Hamilton? I do know that she ended up in Oklahoma, as she died there in 1917, but I do not know where in Oklahoma it was. She had one son, David Lincoln Hamilton. I have an unidentified photo of a woman, who I believe is Lydia, taken in Harrison, Arkansas, which is north of Newton County. She may have lived there too. Any information on Lydia would be appreciated. Thanks. Also I was told that she has a descendant named Jimmy Walker living near Tulsa, Oklahoma. His mother was Billye Wilcoxson Cogburn. She originally submitted a query to an Oklahoma book, and that is where I got the information that Lydia's second husband was Jesse Hamilton and that she had one son, David Lincoln Hamilton. Also it gave the date and plac! e of death as 1917 Oklahoma. Unfortunately, when I tried to contact Billye by looking up all of the Cogburns in that area, I found her husband, but she had already died several years before. The husband was remarried and his new wife had answered the phone and did not want to let me speak to him or give me any information. She only said that Billye had a son name Jimmy Walker, and his wife's name was Susan. So if any of this sounds familiar to anyone, I would really like to get hold of this Jimmy Walker. The lineage of this line is well researched in the early generations in New England, but I get into trouble with some of the children of Rev. Joshua4 below.
