I would like to thank all of you who sent messages of support these last few days. It is really appreciated. We "meet" some really terrific people on these mailing lists, and I really do appreciate you all. I am not the "poor me" type but your support and prayers are really a help during this time. I am a firm believer that the Lord is with me, and mentally reciting the Lords Prayer is a big calming thing for me. Thy will be done. Thanks again Nita Pearce
Thanks to two very helpful Commonwealth War Graves Commission searchers, I was able to get the following invaluable information about George William KEY: "GEORGE WILLIAM KEY, Bombardier, 951402, "A" Bty. 15th Bde., Royal Field Artillery, who died on Sunday, 14th October 1917. Age 40. Additional Information: Husband of Ellen Key, of 174, High St., Slough, Bucks. Commemorative Information: Cemetery: MENIN ROAD SOUTH MILITARY CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, Grave Reference/Panel Number: III. L. 15. His residence address was Coulsdon, Surrey. He enlisted at Kennington, Surrey" While the information appears clear, I could still use some help/clarification. Specific questions are noted below. 1. George William appears about ten years younger (30) in a picture that I have of him taken abt 1916. Also, based on the record "40" years, that puts him at 32 years old when he have his first daughter Marjorie in 1909, and 37 at the birth of his second. Does that seem "old" for the time... How much should I rely on the age noted in the record above? Has anyone had any experience with the reliability of this type of information? 2. Regarding the Coulsdon and Slough addresses -- Should I assume that the Slough address was the address of Ellen PEARCE KEY at the time of George's death and that they lived in Coulsdon when he enlisted? 3. George's father is said by family to be buried in Hanwell. Is there an on-line search option to verify that and obtain additional critical information? As a next step, I plan on going to the LDS center in Virginia for more details.... Any search advice or KEY / PEARCE information that anyone has would be appreciated! Regards from Dave in Virginia. Researching PEARCE, KEY, ELLIS and AXE in the London, Middlesex, Surrey and Bucks area....

Richard's parents are my elusive ancestors. Northampton, MA vital records use the Pearce spelling in reporting the marriage of Richard Pearce and the widow Thankful Canfield in Hatfield, MA on December 28, 1708. I know that we normally put little stock in the early spellings, however I have reason to believe that Richard was a literate person, and that the spelling of the name is significant. What I find interesting is that early descendants of Richard and Thankful in Pittsfield, MA are referred to as Piercy--and beginning in the late 1700s, and to the present time, the name has been consistently spelled Percy. Richard died in Westfield, MA. His grandson, Sylvanus Piercy, was in Bennington County, Vermont in 1782, and removed to Highgate, Vermont where his will is found in 1798...all descendants since that time have used the Percy spelling. In the educational posting of the Dummers War to the Jenkins Ear War, Richard is listed as serving in 1725 from Hatfield, MA. To date I have been unable to determine Richard's parents. The Pearce name has not normally reverted back to its original Percy spelling. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. Basil R. Percy

Susan, I apologize for any confusion, but I assume that your e-mail is in response to a PEARCE inquiry that I, "Dave in Virginia," sent out. One of my last messages asked for information on my great uncles, Jim PEARCE. My PEARCEs did live in the Princes Risborough area. And in fact, my great aunt, Annie PEARCE (b abt 1881), actually married a A(u)rther GRAY. Even though your connection goes much further back, there could still be a link. Since I'm just getting started with all of this [I don't know my GGgrandparent's first names or dates of birth...], I would appreciate it if you could send be your details. They will hopefully fill in some of the puzzle later on. Again thanks for taking the tim on this! Regards from Dave in Virginia.
