1. [PIERCE-L] Oldest Pierce/Pearce
2. Daniel Pearce, Sr., b. ca1746 poss. VA. Purchased land in Greene Co., TN in 1794 and is found in tax records up to 1815 or so. Moved to McMinn Co., TN ca1822, along w/ sons: David, Lewis, Daniel (and poss. sons or nephews - John, Thomas and James). Daniel died between 1830 - 1840 in McMinn County. I believe that my Daniel is connected to the VA Pierce/Pearces that are found in early Frederick County > Montgomery > Botetourt > Wythe. The name Daniel can be found in the NY line of Pearces and the MD line. Does anyone know about the lines that are found in the early settlement of VA and if any of the known ones migrated down into TN (Washington/Greene/Jefferson/Knox/Blount Counties). Some of these also migrated to the Nashville area and into Kentucky. I think that they are mostly all related. Willing to work with others researching this line. Angela Pierce Groenhout

2. I am still looking for a Charles PIERCE born 1845 NC his father is James PIERCE born around 1820-guessing, NC. After Charles served in the Civil War, he and his father moved to Texas, East Texas, Redland Community, Wood County TX. This is questionable because the 1860 Wood Co census lists a James PIERCE m to a Louissa, children including a Benjamin Franklin. Any siblings at this point are unknown to Charles or to James. Charles married a Mary Elizabeth LONG, life time resident of Wood Co and they had four sons, one being a James Monroe or as some now say McCall PIERCE, Thomas, Pete, and Jesse. James m Alma BLAYLOCK, daughter of Benjamin Franklin or Frankland BLAYLOCK and Martha Jane GLENN. Any information on the PIERCE which you think might be helpful, please respond!! 2. Hi Folks.... I'm trying to locate a CALDWELL family that was somewhere in the greater Boston area (but apparently not Boston itself) at least in the 1930's-40's. Unfortunately, I do not have the husband's first name, though he can probably be culled from the herd by the fact that he was a doctor. Is there a listing of doctors by any chance thru AMA or elsewhere? He had a wife and daughter.....Sarah and Frances. I cannot swear which is which, though aging memory places Sarah as his wife. Sarah was born in Norwich, CT in the early 1850's to Wesley8 and Ellen (McWhirr) Pierce, descended from immigrants Thomas and Elizabeth (____) Pierce. (Thomas1, Thomas2, Stephen3, Jacob4, Stephen5, Stephen6, Stephen7). I'm wide open to suggestions as to how I might pin this family down. Need some assistance with this one, please, as I don't have access to old phone books or city directories and don't know where to head next! Thanks so much for your help, Barbara Hanscom Stuart Salinas, CA

3. I hear all of you when talking about the restrictions of some of the forums and really have to commend the list owners of this particular forum for running a somewhat looser ship, thank you guys. Kudos to you. You never know what little minor tidbit of info is going to set off bells in someone else's head that just may just be the lead that you need. Now I am going to post my PIERCE info just so I don't annoy anyone with my mindless chatter. Good luck, everyone, in all of your searches! 1. Re: [PIERCE-L] Re: Need Native American genealogy mailing list and PIERCE
2. Hi, Colleen, Don't feel like you're the 'Lone Indian' out there on this subject......when I was first looking a year ago for my Native American Indian ancestors who are CHEROKEE and CHOCTAW I ran into one particularly 'nasty' listkeeper whose complaint about my posting (which she completely DELETED, by the way,) was that # 1. I had too many CAPITALS (which....face it.....only those of us who have been researching for more than a few minutes know THAT rule!) # 2. She was irritated about all of the 'Anglo' names, especially, in my reference to a particular Colonel among my ancestral grandfathers.....that I mentioned...obviously because these were my ancestors in the line where the particular N.A.I. ancestral line emerged in our family history for the first time.....and, obviously, if you do not know what that particular ancestor's name was you have to use the names you know and hope someone else will recognize it when you are searching. This particular listowner was terribly rude.....hateful is more like it. I was stunned. It was of great interest to me to find the information. I came to realize a short time later that one of things that was, obviously, irritating her was that part of what separated us in her mind, along with the fact that I had 'Anglo' ancestors, was that my CHEROKEE and CHOCTAW ancestors did not go on the 'TRAIL OF TEARS' instead, in one particular case, my ancestral grandmother was assimilated into the 'white' culture by a marriage to an 'Anglo' grandfather. In another case the ancestors in question seemed to 'disappear' into the 'white' culture and/or into the 'woods,' literally and figuratively. The sad part about it is that in this ancestral hunt......in some people's minds.....we are NOT all created equal......there is too much hatred that still runs rampant in some people's veins......against their very own blood in some instances....and is there on all cultural sides in question. So.....bottom line is......SHAKE THEM OFF......and keep on going. The woman to whom I have referred almost put me off of my search for my CHOCTAW roots completely....as she was CHOCTAW...... I was hurt at her lack of acceptance of my quest....especially considering that those of us who are descended from the 'white' and 'non-white' cultures.....find enough 'whites' that don't want to admit that any of their ancestors were ever darker than 'paper white' and find ourselves in ongoing debates regarding the subject......then when you find the places to ask the questions......and you encounter the 'reverse discrimination'......it hurts......but just know that: the person dishing out the bad vibes may have endured significant discrimination in their lifetime and that they are working out their own issues......and there are many, many different lists out there with listowners and members that are wonderful, engaging, caring, intelligent people who are so very helpful and extend themselves so graciously to help you find your place in their family and/or cultural group. Some of these fellow researchers are so very kind and generous as to make up for every slight you have ever encountered. You will find that some lists PRIDE themselves on their hostility and rudeness.....just UNSUBSCRIBE.....and brush off their negativity and go on. They're just individiual people.....most with no special credentials....sitting at a keyboard in their little part of the world writing on an electronic/cyberspace sheet of paper.....nothing less.....nothing more. If you stay in their 'arena' you will only be slowed down....deterred from your 'quest.' There are so many lists and so many websites where you can find out so very much more information than these people have access to anyway. Some of them really.....'DON'T HAVE A CLUE' anyway.....concentrate, especially, on asking the questions over in the lists and websites that are specializing in the family surnames that you know that connect to that particular Native American Indian line that you are looking for. If PIERCE is the earliest name you have then concentrate there. Case in point......(for which I am always looking for more information.....) my ggg grandmother was Elizabeth PIERCE, born: between 1778 - 1790 in South Carolina. She married my ggg grandfather, William MYRICK, born in the late 1700's SOMETIME......and they have four sons, (that I am aware of ,) Aquilla MYRICK, born: 1814 in GA, (one researcher says his name is James,) Hen ry MYRICK, born: abt 1818 in AL, married Rebeccah ?, Jeremiah MYRICK, born: abt. 1820 in AL, married a ? STINSON, (dau of Elizabeth STINSON, born: abt. 1780 in SC,) and William H. MYRICK, born: bet. 1823 - 1827 in MS, married: Pho ebe (sp?) Catherine HERRINGTON, born: bet. 1834 - 1836, two of their sons were William A.MYRICK, born: 1860 and my great grandfather, Calvin Pierce MYRICK, born: 1858 who married Harriet 'Hattie' Katherine HARRINGTON/HERRINGTON, (his 3rd cousin, once removed.) My Elizabeth PIERCE appears to be the Elizabeth 'Betty/Bettie' PIERCE that was the daughter of Hug h PIERCE, (RS,) born: abt. 1749 in Frederick Co., VA, who married Sofia HUNTER who was CHEROKEE and was the daughter of CHEROKEE parents, father: Bold HUNTER and mother: Beaver TOTER/TOATER, aka: "To-wa-yah-leese/ Toyaleesa" she was listed in the "EARLY CHEROKEE PLANTERS OF GEORGIA" book. Also, I am still looking for any information on my gggg grandmother, Martha Jane Dorsey/Dorcy/D'Arcy LIGHTFOOT, born: abt. 1763, daughter of Phillip LIGHTFOOT of Virginia who appears to descend from Colonel Phillip LIGHTFOOT, born in England and emigrated to Virginia, and his wife, Alice CORBIN. There is an enormous amount of 'family legend' surrounding the CHEROKEE or CHOCTAW ancestry of Martha Jane and her daughter Frances Lucretia 'Patsy' LOTT.....their is confusion on the use of the nickname 'Patsy' for Frances as 'Patsy' was the common nickname for Martha during that era. So...not sure on that issue....there are several children of Martha Jane Dorsey LIGHTFOOT and her husband, Absalom LOTT (of John LOTT and Elizabeth JOYNER line,) and their daughter, Frances Lucretia 'Patsy' LOTT, born: abt. 1800 in AL, married my ggg grandfather: William HATTEN, son of Lewis Lamkin HATTEN and Sarah 'Sally' UNDERWOOD, dau of Jacob UNDERWOOD and Hannah CLARK. If anyone connects with anything please contact [email protected] Good luck with your research. Sincerely, Belinda Myrick Barnett

2. Hi Colleen and others, Just had to respond to this query. A mailing list that has too strict of requirements may not be very productive. That is my opinion. I belong to many mailing lists and see all kinds of things come through them, some apply, some don't but sometimes the info is of interest to some of the people and genealogy includes many things and that lost ancestor can be found is some of the strangest ways. I don't know of a mailing list but do know of a wonderful web page dedicated the New England Indians. Click here: New England Indians Home Page http://users.javanet.com/~smartin/ You can find all mailing lists hosted by Rootsweb on this page. Click here: User Mailing Lists Hosted by RootsWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/ Happy Hunting, Sue Gardner Leominster, MA Team Captain of the Pie rce Project - New England/New York http://members.aol.com/SueG476/Project.html In a message dated 10/20/1999 1:24:57 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > > In case you're wondering how this pertains, my Pearce > line married into a Cherokee line. :-) > > I recently subscribed to the ITROOTS-L list at rootsweb. > I posted my Cherokee rolls/list query to the ITROOTS list at > the same time that I posted here. 3. In case you're wondering how this pertains, my Pearce line married into a Cherokee line. :-) I recently subscribed to the ITROOTS-L list at rootsweb. I posted my Cherokee rolls/list query to the ITROOTS list at the same time that I posted here. It is a list which is allegedly for NatAm genealogy research). I posted it to 3 lists, because it pertains to ALL 3 LISTS. I got back a very strange, rather snotty message from the ITROOTS-L list owner. She told me that my query, about web sites for certain Native American census, was inappropriate for her mailing list. She says, unless a message pertains to NOTHING other than the ITROOTS list, it can't be posted there. She would have been REALLY ticked off if she'd known I posted the query to a couple of newsgroups, as well. ;-) Among other things, she says: >>I am VERY concerned about another thing-- your message below. One of the >>rules on Indian Territory Roots is that if the message is not important >>enough to send it to our list ALONE, then we don't want it! She went into greater detail (read tirade), but none of the spheel was more logical than the above. I can't think of a single topic that pertains to that list ONLY. What a strange rule. Does anyone know of an American Indian mailing list, which is genuinely there to help the Native American genealogy researcher?? 3. This is a great list and I read it every day. But my Tennessee ggrandparents have been hiding from me for a long time. Here is what I know. Searching for Mr. PIERCE (given name unk) who married Sabina (maiden name unk) abt 1825 in TN. Both were born in TN abt 1805. Mr PIERCE and his wife Sabina had at least two sons - Bird PIERCE born in 1836 in TN, and Young PIERCE born 19 Jul 1839 in TN. The two PIERCE sons and their mother Sabina were in Coryell Co. TX. as early as 1854. Bird PIERCE died in the Civil War at Pine Ridge AR 3 Mar 1863. Young PIERCE was killed by Comanches in Coryell Co. TX 16 Mar 1859. Bird PIERCE married Sarah SCOGGIN 1 Sep 1855 in Coryell Co. TX. Sarah was born in Hardeman Co.TN and lived in Izard Co. AR before moving on to Texas. I have recent information indicating that Mr. Pierce and Sabina were married in Hardeman Co. TN 3 April 1825 but this is unconfirmed. I suspect there are other siblings considering this marriage date and the ages of the two know brothers. Any leads, comments, advise, search techniques are gratefully accepted.
