I have some new information on my great grandfather that I am researching. David PIERCE was born in Ireland March 1, 1870 and came over to Canada fairly young(?) with a family with the last name of DUNN. I am not too sure where he arrived in Canada but found his way to Ontario and married Azuba Alice (ANDERSON or MOORE) and raised his family in St. Catharines, Ontario where he died January 31, 1945 and was buried there. If anyone can shed any light on this info I would appreciate it. I am especially interested in his Irish roots. Thank you Penny Gillard
I have been searching for ages for a edmund pierce. He was born in St brides major, glamorgan Shire Wales in 1769, he married Anne Francis in 1794, and Had a few children, Anne died about 1824, and in about 1829 he married a Janet Jenkins. They also had a few children. I have been trying to find him for quite some time. I have noticed that everything sent in is for people in the US so I am in hopes that I can find someone with some roots in WAles around this time. Please let me know. Thank you Jaidi Pierce
I looked in the index of a book that has come down in the family from 1882. There were Persis admitted to the church at Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1643, another in l668, and a third in 1812. I ldon't know if this is a common name of that period or not. They were the only three mentioned. Perhaps if they left the US that is why your Persis wasn't mentioned in the book. I know there were people who are not mentioned. If you want any more information on these three I will send it but not tonight,
Thank you for the information. I just asked my mom about Shanghai Pierce, she remembers stories about him. Take some poking to get her memory going at times. Much of the material I have is from my ggreat Aunt Callie (Caldora Rhoades) journal when her family fled Texas. She was about 12 or 14. Alamagordo might be Alvarado. Which is the name or place of the plantation my gg-grandmother lived on for awhile. She passed along stories of the family having many slaves during those times. My moms comments on this section that you wrote; "Shanghi travelled from galveston to austin and then to Dodge City Ks and Amarillo area many times this route (the chisolm trail) took him right through the Pierce Ranch at Kimbell Bend in Bosque County Tx (Now Johnson County) the ranch was called Goatneck" She said that during one of those trips is where something really bad happened that is why my ggreat-grandfather left Texas. The children of George and Sarah Pierce Rhoades were born in three different places in Texas, both east and west. Caldora Ann Rhoades (Callie), b. September 06, 1879, Selma, Texas; Thomas Jefferson Rhoades b. April 23, 1882, Waldrip, Tom Greene County, Texas; Elizabeth Ellen Rhoades (Bessie Booth) b. April 23, 1886, Brownsborrow, Texas; Adolph Pierce Rhoades (Floyd), b. February 08, 1890, Hope, Eddie, New Mexico.
the King also married into kuykendall family Shanghi Pierce was the famous cattleman of galveston houston area his daughters married into the king ranch (i have read) I do not recall seeing a Geo W Pierce in that line though several books have been written about shanghi Pierce (Able Head Pierce) his geneallgy was from MA or Boston and is well documented look at my panhandle history links page and search on the Tx Handbook for Pierce, AH or Shanghi and you will find his story I recently purchased a used copy of his biog by chris somebody but have not read it yet are you a member of the pierce email list?? you will find that on my genealogy links page and several other links to pierce stuff genealogy links I like and use a lot http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/pierce/ http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/pearce/ http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Pearse http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pierces/ResourceCenter.html http://www.usgenweb.com/ http://rootsweb.com/ I am thinking of doing a web page on Shanghi Pierce Shanghi travelled from galveston to austin and then to Dodge City Ks and Amarillo area many times this route (the chisolm trail) took him right through the Pierce Ranch at Kimbell Bend in Bosque County Tx (Now Johnson County) the ranch was called Goatneck I am sure he was acquainted with my LD Pierce (Pegleg) and CAP Clem Abercrombie Pierce My grandfathers brother settled some land CAP owned in ARCH NM Read the Joel J Pierce Mystery on my webs (carefully) hundreds of other peirces migrated to the Hill Johnson Bosque County areas after first landing at Palestine Rusk in East Texas Many of these pierces settled in AL and LA on the Way to Rusk After Johnson County Cleburne, some ended up in Hamilton County, Granbury forget the County) and even Cisco TX and stephenville area. (and Bell County See Eliz Pierce Page on My webs) If I were you I would concentrate on the LA and AL and MS pierce researchers. And Start Looking to East Texas for Leads There are several other descendants of Hugh Pierce in the Johnson Hill Bosque areas that we have not yet identified. We are working on a census for all these counties and there are several other ( but not a great number) of pierces that were in this area around cleburne at this same time. A Geo W Pierce is also in the Tx Handbook. A Geo W Pierce built the road from Alvarado to Cleburne in 1851. My Family had many Geo W Pierces You also need to work the PEARCE line. Sometimes the name was pearce and ended up Pierce by the 1860's ----- Original Message ----- From: Teresa Gaffney <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 08, 1999 10:53 PM Subject: Pierce Geneology > LD, > > I read your posts on Genforum regarding the Pierce family. I am looking once again for information on Jared W. Pierce b. Feb 10, 1792, in Halifax, Windham, VT. I found his marriage record which shows his name spelled Pear(a??) to Louisa Willcox. His sister Margaret Pear(a??) married Louisa's brother Joseph Willcox the year before. The handwriting of the clerk was actually very clear so I'm not sure why the discrepancy. I also found his name on the Vermont census (1820) as Jerrd Perce and then in the NY census of 1930 as Jared W. Pierce. Anyone out there have any Halifax Pierce's? I would love some help. Thank you. Debi Pierce

I am trying to get information on Thomas Pierce who married Almy Chase at Trinity Church in Newport, Rhode Island in Nov. 1748. They emigrated to Nova Sotia about 1762. They had seven children, all or most born in New England. They were: Persis, John, Thomas, James, Josiah, Elsie and Amy. I don"t know the order of birth except fo Persis who was the oldest, born 1749. I have been unable to find anything on either Thomas or Almy in Rhode Island. I think maybe their families moved there from Mass. Has anyone come across these names in their research? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you, Richard Pierce

I am looking for information on Hugh Pierce and son George. They were both in the REV, War. I have seen copies of a book on Rev soldiers from VA which list all of the children of the soldier. Does anyone know if there is such a book for South Carolina? Hugh was in Spartenburg, SC before moving to GA. He was in Lumpkin, and Habersham that I know of.
Hello Hugh, I was hoping some scholar on this matter would present himself or herself and solve this mystery. I am still confused on the matter, but here is what I have: a. From the will of Capt. Michael Pierce: " ...four acres of meadow land in Hingham aforesaid which my father James gave unto my said son Ephraim..." b. I found a English parish (Kent) birth record on micro fiche at an LDS Family History Center stating a Michael Pierce was born in 1615 whose father was Richard c. Curiously, FC Pierce's, 1889 book, Pierce Genealogy, Being the Record of the Posterity of Capt. Michael, John and Capt. William Pierce, etc does not mention their parents. d. Even more curious, FC Pierce's 1888 book, Pearce Genealogy, Being the Record of the Posterity of Richard Pearce, of Portsmouth in Rhode Island, etc states that Richard Pearce, Jr. (b. 1590) was the brother of Capt. William Pearce, (b. abt 1595 d. Jul 13, 1641) killed by Spanish canon fire in the Bahamas. Richard and Williams ancestors are traced through the noble Percy family of England back to some Vikings that settled in Normandy in 970 or so. e. I have seen several GEDCOMs tracing Capt. William Pierce through this same Percy family with no reference as to how they connected the two families. I have more information on Capt. Michael Pierce, his battlefield and the location of his house, etc. I have not been able to locate his grave, maybe because the Indians that killed him would not allow access to the battlefield for the burial of him and his men. There was also a David Pierce b.10/5/1715 his parents were Samuel Pierce b.1682 and Mary Saunders they moved to Gloucester,MA in 1713,were David was born. Samuel Pierce was the son of Abraham Pierce (one of the first in the Plymouth colonies(recorded as paying taxes in 1623) and Rebecca ? Hi Barb, I recommend you get a copy of Frederick Clifton Pierce's book PIERCE GENEALOGY, being the Record of the Posterity of Capt. Michael, John and Capt. William Pierce, etc.. He is the best source I have found for Pierce's in the Plymouth Colony area of MA, and particularly Rehoboth. My own family had seven generations there. One possibility, is David Pierce (b. 11 Apr. 1739, brother to Peleg Pierce. It also states he married Mary____. (maybe a 1st wife) You can buy a copy of the book at: http://www.higginsonbooks.com/ . I thought this was great and it should help us all post more effective queries hope that is is not off topic or considered offensive by some!! "POSTING AN EFFECTIVE QUERY" by Juliana Smith <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ============================================================ Posts to message boards, mailing lists, and newsgroups are great ways to connect with researchers with similar interests, to seek information, or to locate long lost cousins. But getting results requires more than just a little luck. It takes a well though out query to get results. Below are some tips for writing an effective query that will increase your chances for success. ~ Make sure you are addressing your query to the appropriate forum. Familiarize yourself with what is available and then decide where you will most likely find the answers you seek. There are forums for just about any question you might have. For example, FamilyHistory.com (http://www.familyhistory.com) currently hosts over 79,000 message boards on a variety of topics. There are boards for specific surnames, geographic locations, and specialty topics, such as "Naturalization Records," "Mexican Revolution," "Emigration Patterns," "Icelanders in Dakota," or "Cherokee Nation." If a message board currently does not exist for your area of research, it is very simple to start one. Just go to the appropriate section (surname, country/state, or topic) and click "Request a Forum." ~ Make sure that the subject line is concise and reflects the information you are seeking. "Need genealogy help" is not as likely to get results as a specific subject heading. If the inquiry is about an individual or family, be sure to include the surname (in caps). Other helpful information that can be included might be a date or time frame, location, or other identifying information. A commonly accepted format might be something like: PUBLIC, John Q. 1887-1934 IRL>NYC>OHIO Be creative and make your query stand out to the people that have the information you need. ~ Get to the point. Most people don't want to take the time to read a long drawn out query. The first paragraph should contain the "Who, What, Where, and When" of your request. Details can be filled in after you have gotten the attention of your targeted audience. ~ Include only one request in your post. Too many requests may decrease your chances for a response. Other inquiries can be posted separately. ~ Include places you have already checked for the information. Otherwise you may be wasting other people's time, as well as your own, as you will have half a dozen replies telling you to search the obvious places that you have already checked. ~ Capitalize SURNAMES so that they are easy to pick out of the post and subject lines. (You shouldn't capitalize an entire message as it makes it more difficult to read and some people consider it the online equivalent of shouting.) ~ Be careful with abbreviations in your query. Remember that many forums have members from all parts of the world and others may not be familiar with the same abbreviations that we use. So spell it out whenever possible. This will eliminate the possibility for misinterpretation. ~ Familiarize yourself with online resources so that you don't post unnecessary requests. If you are looking for a geographic location, try some of the online maps that are available to locate an ancestor's town. Some popular map sites are: Lycos RoadMaps http://www.lycos.com/roadmap.html MapQuest http://www.mapquest.com/ USGS County/Location Finder http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html Pam Rietsch's 1895 U.S. Atlas http://www.livgenmi.com/1895.htm Online directories can help find addresses: WhoWhere? http://www.whowhere.lycos.com/ Juliana's Links at: http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/testurllinks/search.asp has links to libraries, genealogical societies, historical societies and other research facilities and services. Visit an organization or facility's webpage to find hours, addresses, etc. Search engines are also very helpful in locating information, rather than requesting it from your genealogical forum. Lycos.com http://www.lycos.com/ ~ When posting to a mailing list, check your e-mail settings. Make sure you are only sending plain text to mailing lists. Others may not have the capability to read HTML coded messages and you want your message to be received and readable by as many people as possible. ~ Do not send your query as an attachment. Many viruses are transmitted as attachments and as a result, most people wisely refrain from opening attachments on email from people they don't know. ~ Sign your post with your name and e-mail address. Some e-mail readers don't show the address that an e-mail is received from and a recipient with the information you are looking for can't respond to you if they don't have your e-mail address. ~ Re-read your post carefully before you send it. Check for typos. Did you include all the necessary information? (Remember the 4 W's: Who, What, Where, When) Are all of your facts correct? Have you signed it properly? ~ Make sure your post is neat, and polite. Manners count online too. ~ Be careful of what information you post online, particularly when referring to living persons. Be sure to respect people's privacy and keep yourself and your family safe from those who might use information found online for fraudulent purposes. ~ If you find information worth sharing, post it to the appropriate list and share the source of the information so that others may benefit from your "finds." As you help others, they will be more eager to help you in return. ~ Always be polite on the lists and refrain from flaming. No one wants to help someone who is constantly complaining or mean to others. ~ Keep a log of your e-mail messages so you know what requests you have already put out and when. For more information, read "Citing the Messages" by Drew Smith at: http://www.ancestry.com/home/bestofgc/citing.htm (Genealogical Computing, Spring 1998, Vol. 17, No. 4) By using common sense and following simple guidelines, you can benefit greatly from genealogical forums. They are a great place to make friends, find relatives, and information.
