I believe we might have some connection here with George Pierce and Elizabeth McCracken. I have some pages given to me that were copied from the book "Cherokee County Texas History" in the Ft. Worth Public Library. If you have not seen it I'll send more information. I have distant relatives in TX who are working on this line and they'd know more about it than I. Shirley

Still looking for Elizabeth PIERCE born: Abt. 1790 in South Carolina, could be as early as 1788, it is possible that she is the daughter of Hugh PIERCE, born: abt. 1755 and wife, Sofia HUNTER. There seem to be connections between this PIERCE, McCRACKEN, DE LOACH family group and a MYRICK line that may be connected to the MYRICK line that Elizabeth PIERCE married into married: William MYRICK born: Bet. 1775 - 1790, probably, in VA, MD, NC, SC, GA ? appears to be descended from the Owen MYRICK line through the Francis MYRICK, Sr. and Jr. who married Susannah CARROLL and Rebecca CARROLL but I am still trying to 'nail down' precisely who his parents were as there are lots of William MYRICKs. There are, also, other family lines that crossover into this MYRICK line back during this time including my PARKER and BARHAM possibilities with the Lucy NEWSOM and William MYRICK marriage. The children of William MYRICK and Elizabeth PIERCE were: 1. Aquilla MYRICK, born: 1814 in Georgia, married ? BENNETT 2. Henry MYRICK, born: abt. 1818 in AL 3. Jeremiah MYRICK, born: abt. 1820 in AL 4. William H. MYRICK, born: bet. 1823-1827 in MS, married: Phoebe Catherine HERRINGTON, born: bet. 1834-1836 children: include Calvin Pierce MYRICK, born: 1858 William A. MYRICK, born: 1860 If you have any information please contact me. Thank you. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick Barnett
COWELL'S SPIRIT OF '76." An Analytical and Explanatory Index. Judge Benjamin Cowell, the author of this work, which was published by him in 1850, was born in Wrentham, Mass., in 1781, and died in Providence, R. I., May 6, 1860. He graduated from Brown University in the class of 1803. He studied law and settled in Providence. For a long term he was pension attorney for this district. During this long term he became acquainted with many of the old soldiers and he Could, from his large mass of anecdote and collections, have produced several very interesting volumes.. The partial list he published was perhaps an afterthought with him in late life 'for, had he commenced with his first practice with the object in view of publishing later, he would have had an immense manuscript which today would be priceless. The partial list he published was not arranged so that a reader, and more particularly one who was anxious to know whether a certain name was in his book or not, could find it without a weary search. In brief his work was utterly destitute of an index of any nature whatever. Judge Cowell's style was that of a lawyer and hence his work carries their earmarks. Had he systematized his notes he would have added much beauty to his work, from a literary point of view. These notes, however, coming as they do from a lawyer, are the more valuable and reliable as they are the facts as clearly as he could obtain them. At the time of the compilation of this work by judge Cowell, an index was not regarded as essential as it is to-day, so that, while the omission was excusable in his day, it would not be excusable now. With all these defects the work still has sterling merits. The large mass of valuable information contained therein has only to be properly indexed to be made useful, and of great value to one who is searching for this kind of historical information. The copy we have in our library we prize as highly as any one book of our Rhode Island works on a special subject. While we regret that the judge did not give us more of it, we are thankful for what he has done. The reader should bear in mind that when the same name as that of his grand, or great-grand-father appears in this list, it may indicate his service, or that of another of the same name. To clinch the proof other evidence must be obtained. Again, there may be several of the same name who served at different times in different places. The reader, therefore, should carefully verify the facts herein given with other authorities. That the reader may be instructed and interested in the perusal of this index is the earnest wish of the compiler. In the introductory portion of judge Cowell's work will be found several biographical sketches of the Rhode Island officers of the Revolution. 119 PEARCE Hon. Dutee )., M. In my reply settings there is a box that I can check to copy all addresses and a box that I can check to reply just to the sender, a box I can check that includes all text and a Box to check not to include text. If your system has these options then the person resonding is not checking the correct boxes. Hi again everybody, I wasn't trying to upset anyone by posting a message of thanks without followup information, in fact quite the opposite. I was genuinely tickled by the number of responses that I received and hope to still gain help when needed. Incedentally, the "she" that refers to myself is actually very much a "he". The last time I checked anyway. 8^) So, anyway, I guess that I'd better offer up some of what was given to me. Thanks to the responses that were sent, I found three different variations of the Pierce family crest. Credit goes to Tom Pierce for informing me that the crest that belongs to your name matters whether your of English or Irish descent. The first one was sent to me as an e-mail attachment from a gentleman named John Windsor, a subscriber to this list (Thanks again John). This one was a substantial image. It printed nicely on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. There were 2 others that were different. They were located on a couple of different web sites along with a smaller version of the one that John Windsor sent me. Here are the url's: http://www.gtii.com/mpi/famhist.htm http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pierces/ There were a number of different url's that were forwarded to me, but pretty much had all of the same crests that I found in the two sites above. I hope that I could help Thanks again for everyone who responded. Your help IS greatly appreciated. Dale BTW, I don't think that the responses were intentionally sent to me only and not the list. When I responded to this message, I noticed that the ONLY address listed was the person who authored the message. =================================== Dale Arnold [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, December 05, 1999 12:54 AM Subject: [PIERCE-L] Sharing info >The following message was posted to the Digest. We had this discussion many moons ago b4 we took over the mailing list, and the settings were changed to what are currently set. The difference here is that if you hit "Reply to Sender" it responds directly to that person! If you hit "Reply to All" it will respond to the sender and to Pierce-L - This worked well for the people on the digest because they do not get the messages as quickly as do those posted to Pierce-L, the digest gets sent out on a timed basis. Also, if you look at the taglines on the bottom on the Digests and Lists you will see helpful messages from your list coordinators.
