    3. Fellow Pierce's- I am at the famous brick wall with Jared W. Pierce b. 10 Feb 1792 Halifax, Windham, VT. - sure of birthdate not of place. Jared lived there and married (Louisa WILCOX) there but as I cannot find a birth record can't confirm birthplace. Would like information from anyone with a Windham County Pierce. I have the following Pierce's as living there in 1800. My info: Jared W. PIERCE/PEARCE m. 7 Dec 1817 Margaret PIERCE/PEARCE m. Joseph WILCOX 4 Aug 1816 Allen Benjamin James Joseph Nathaniel Reuben Also - Ephraim Pierce who lived in Windham County and removed to Jefferson County, NY and appeared in court for pension in 1832 in that county. My Pierce's also moved to Jefferson County, NY between 1820 and 1830. I would appreciate information from any one who has traced any of the above families. I have a copy of Ephraim Pearce's Revolutionary Claim if someone needs it. Thank you in advance. Debi Pierce - Snowed in - Carthage, Jeff. Co., NY

    3. In the early-mid 1800's there were two brothers, Reddick and Lovick Pierce. Both worked within the S. Carolina and Georgia circuits of the Methodist church. Somehow, George Foster Pierce descends from one of these brothers, I believe it is Lovick Pierce, but I can't remember if "this" George is Lovick's son or grandson. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2000 2:55 PM Subject: [PIERCE-L] re: Bishop Pierce > LD & others on the list: > > I do not know of Bishop Pierce, but I thought that I would throw in a point > regarding my Pearce/Pierce research. 1. [PIERCE-L] PIERCE, NC/TN/KY/MO ca 1775-1825
    2. John W Pierce
    3. We're looking for any reference to PIERCE in connection with LEMONS, MURRELL, OGLE, WILEY, or (too good to hope for) MOTHERSHEAD in NC, TN or KY in the 1775 to 1825 timeframe. We're absolutely stuck at our great-greatgrandfather, Washington G PIERCE, who appears magically in an 1842 land transaction in Jefferson Co, MO. He is married to Martha LEMONS, and at least three grown sons - George W (b ca 1824, probably in TN), William Goosby (b 1828, TN), and John. George W's first wife was Susannah LEMONS, and from the land transactions and other intertwinings with the surrounding (and numerous) LEMONS, MOTHERSHEAD, MURREL, OGLE and WILEY families, it would seem that these PIERCEs were well established by the time of that 1842 land transaction. With the exception (as far as we know) of MOTHERSHEAD, these are all names that are well researched and that followed the PA/MD --> VA --> NC/TN migration paths. It seems to me that our best chance lies in trying to track these other families in the hope that one of them will lead us to a useful PIERCE reference in NC/TN/KY. -- John W Pierce, R2 Systems, San Diego [email protected]

    2. LDPierce
    3. Does anybody in the pierce list know anything about this??? Looking for copy of Life and times of Bishop Geo F Pierce PIERCES CHAPEL, TEXAS. Pierces (Pierce's) Chapel is on Farm Road 747 fourteen miles northwest of Rusk in western Cherokee County. The community grew up around a Methodist church named for Bishop George F. Pierce, who preached there during the 1860s on his way to the annual state conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. An early school was established in the church, and a separate schoolhouse was later built nearby. In 1896 the local one-teacher school had an enrollment of forty-seven. During the mid-1930s the community comprised the school, a church, and a number of houses. The school was later closed, but in the 1980s there were still two churches and a store in the area. 2. LD & others on the list: I do not know of Bishop Pierce, but I thought that I would throw in a point regarding my Pearce/Pierce research. I have been tracing the Pearces that were in the Shenandoah Valley of VA and I believe that the line that I am following could possibly be part of the early Quaker migration that came into Frederick Co., MD > Frederick Co., VA > Montgomery/Botetourt Co., VA > Wythe/Smith Co., VA > and down into TN and beyond. After this line left the upper Shenandoah Valley, it appears that some became Methodist Episcopal (Bishop Francis Asbury, as the first missionary of the Methodist, was traveling in the area during this time period). I found a historical reference once online that stated that many Quakers did transfer over to Methodist Episcopal. What instigated my research into this topic is the fact that my Pearce/Pierce line into Bradley Co., TN are all buried in an old Methodist Episcopal cemetery. I didn't know what it meant until I researched the history. It is the first group of Methodist (who, prior to being designated a denomination, were formerly known as participants in the Methodist Societies). Anyone can correct or add as they see fit. This is all that I know, but I feel that it is pertinent to LD's post. The name George was a common name amongst those early Pearces that left PA into VA and down into NC/TN. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this subject. LD, we will find that connection yet! Angela Pierce Groenhout
