Since so many of the children listed above were listed as dying after 1898, I would suspect that some of the information above was taken from an 1898 obituary which listed these particular children as survivors. Whose obituary that could have been is not known and is not published in PFN. If not an obituary, some record must have existed which listed these children as being alive in 1898. The 1830, 1850 and 1860 census records show a JOHN H PIATT as living in Scioto Co OH in Niles twp (1830 and 1860) and Union twp (1850). In 1840 he was in Tiffin Twp, Adams Co OH. This JOHN H PIATT was an uncle to the JOHN listed above who married Eliza Jane Hayslip. An account of the murder of the two Piatt brothers above states that the murder "shocked the people of Rocky Fork, on the line between Adams and Scioto Counties." Also, the article states that the crime was committed "less than a hundred yards over the Scioto County line." Certainly, the Scioto Co Piatts and the Adams Co Piatts were connected but further research is needed to demonstrate those connections. -- Laverne Ingram Piatt Ontario, OH
