You say that John Piatt (b:c1784) was murdered in New Orleans, LA before 26 Jun 1812. Do you know the story behind that? Why was John in New Orleans? Was he the only Piatt down there? I have come across the following. A Benjamin Piatt that was always in trouble with the law down in Louisiana. Now, he is supposedly the son of Jacob Pyatt and Elizabeth Dunham. He married a Mary Phillips, was divorced. He apparently married for second to a Mary Waddell and settled in Adams County, OH. Now, my question is was Benjamin in New Orleans when John was murdered? Were the two cousins in New Orleans together? Is this two different Benjamin Piatt? If so, who would this Benjamin Piatt be? How was he in trouble with the law in Louisiana?
For David: I don't know anything further of the details of the murder of a John Piatt in New Orleans other than what I posted. Was this John a cousin of the Benjamin who was married to Mary Philips. Yes, to some degree, but not first cousins. But did they know each other? I don't know. There is a lot more research that needs to be done concerning (the) Benjamin(s). -- Laverne Ingram Piatt Ontario, OH
