For Dave Piatt and all other interested parties - In checking my files on the above family, I find the following. I have a question mark with Ellen's date of birth, 1830 and 1838. I never saw the death certificate, but if the numbers are clear, it would seem that was correct. However, I have found many discrepancies in census records with ages, so either they would give it wrong or the censustaker did not hear it correctly. Regarding, daughter Sarah P. Piatt. Her correct name was Sarah Mildred and that should correct the possible misconception as she went by Millie. My explanation for daughter Carrie is this. I have always assumed Carrie was the child of Ellen and possibly with Mr. Lowden before they married. She did go by the Lowden name so she was either adopted by Moses Cummings Lowden or assumed that name. There was mix-ups in this family according to the elder descendants that I personally interviewed back in the mid 1960s. James and Ellen purchased their property 10/20/1870. Ellen finally got a clear deed for herself on 10/22/1872 after the death of James on 4/11/1872. Ellen then sold the property on 10/9/1876. J. W. Eno was appointed the guardian of the children 3/25/1876, namely, George, Robert, Sarah, Charles and Ulysses. These records came from the courthouse as well as many of the descendants, one other being extremely helpful, Elizabeth (Piatt) Kittle. One thing I am still confused on, is that Mrs. Kittle above, told me there was an Isaac Piatt that was in the family and she thought it was a brother to the above James, but she could not clearly remember the facts. To this day, I have not been able to prove or disprove this fact. The name Isaac certainly was in the family with James grandfather Ephraim. Let me know if you can add anything. Dick Piatt, PA.
