    1. [PIATT] Hannah Piatt and Isaac Armfield
    2. Laverne Piatt
    3. The marriage for Hannah Peatt [sic] to Isaac Armfield was published in the compiled books of Indiana vital records which can be found on the open shelves in the Allen County Public Library. I transcribed the Piatt/Pyatt records from those books some years ago and they were published in the Piatt Family Newsletter, Volume 5, 1990. The marriage in questions reads: Hamilton County, Indiana, Marriage Records: HANNAH PEATT [sic] to ISAAC ARMFIELD 22 Dec 1851, Book 1:42 License issued to Isaac Armfield and HANNAH PIATT [sic], both of Lawful Age and she a resident of Hamilton County, Indiana, proven by affidavit of Peter Case. Daniel R Brown, Clerk of Circuit Court, Noblesville, 22nd Dec 1851. Minister's Return - 24 Dec 1851 - William W Boyden. This was the only Piatt marriage found in the Hamilton Co books in the time period covered. As to the Piatts in Hamilton Co OHIO in 1830, there were 3: 1. In Cincinnati Ward 1, there was JACOB WYCKOFF PIATT, aged 20-30, with two females under 5. Jacob Wyckoff was the son of BENJAMIN McCULLOUGH PIATT and ELIZABETH BARNETT. His young wife, CATHERINE CANFIELD, had died by 1830. 2. In Cincinnati Ward 2, there was WILLIAM PIATT, aged 50-60, living alone between neighbors Samuel Hitchcock and Jeffrey Seymore. There is one William who fits this age category--son of DANIEL PIATT and CATHERINE SHERRAD and who died in Pittsburgh, on 16 Aug 1834, unmarried. Daniel's William would have been 57 in 1830. This is just speculation as to the identify of this William. 3. In Whitewater Township, ELIZABETH PIATT, aged 50-60, with 2 females under 5, one male 20-30, and one male under 5. It is believed that this is ELIZABETH DeMOND PIATT widow of DANIEL PIATT (JR) son of DANIEL PIATT and CATHERINE SHERRAD. The younger Daniel is believed to have met an accidental death by drowning around 1808. This family lived near ELIZABETHTOWN, Hamilton Co OHIO. Could this be the Elizabethtown questioned in a recent query? There were two MOSES PYATTs in Ohio in 1830. They were: 1. In Adams Township of Seneca County, was MOSES RYATT [sic], aged 20-30 with one female aged 20-30, one female 10-15, one male 10-15, one male under 5. This Moses Pyatt is believed to be the one married to ELIZABETH PARKER who went on to northen Indiana, LaGrange Co. There would be no Elizabeth Hannah in this family born 1828. (We all remember to look in the index under R for Piatt, don't we?) Neighbors to this Moses Pyatt were JACOB WHITEMAN, JOHN PETTICORD and JOHN ELDER. 2. In Truro Township, Franklin Co, was MOSES PIATT, aged 50-60, with one male 20-30, one female 40-50, two females 15-20, one female 10-15, two females 5-10, and one female under 5. There is room in this family for Elizabeth Hannah to have been born in 1828. And, if so, the advanced age of her parents makes it likely that she was reared with others for part of her growing up hears. Neighbors for this Moses Piatt were GEORGE W CALP and WILLIAM McCOMB. Neither of these Moses Piatts appear in the Ohio census for 1840. There were no Piatt listings for Stark Co Ohio, the location of Canton OH, in 1830. At least one Moses Piatt was on tax lists and in the 1820 census for Hampshire Co VA, now WV. The elder MOSES PIATT listed above could also have been the one who appeared in the 1820 census for Linton Township, Coshocton Co OH. Linton--Canton. Do they sound enough alike to be confused? I'm not sure any of this clears the waters any. There were a lot of Piatts and their paths crossed more than once. -- Laverne Ingram Piatt Ontario, OH
