John Piatt, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Piatt , father of your Dora, and Father to My GreatGrandmother Mary Jane. It is from 1916. I am interested in John and his wife Mary Elizabeth Puterbaugh. Especially their heritage, since my Great Grandmother Mary Jane, and her brother, Virgil, of whom I have pictues, were of Native American descent. Is there Native American blood in your line as well through Dora?

    2. Hello to all researching the VA.-W.VA. families, particularly William Piatt-Pyatt. The wives of two of these Piatts' being the name SMITH. Many of us have traveled to those areas trying to get a lead on these families with no results. If anyone is living in that area, I think it would be wise to research MARTIN SMITH, to see if he left a Will and Deed transactions. Just maybe it would throw some light on this family. 3. For Richard Rantz, who posted to the list on 27 Jul 2001: I don't have a Harriet Bell Piatt in my records but it is possible that she was a descendant of John and Rebecca Piatt who were in the 1820 Ohio census for Montgomery Co OH. Some of the descendants of John and Rebecca went to Darke Co OH with others being across the state line in Jay and Randolph Counties in Indiana. I would suggest that you check the 1900 census for Montgomery, Darke and surrounding counties to see if you can find a 16 year old Harriet in the household of those who would presumably be her parents. Or perhaps you could obtain her death certificate which should name her parents. With that information we could probably make a connection. -- Laverne Ingram Piatt Ontario, OH

    3. Marianne, Adalina Tennant's middle name was Margaret and according to my records married John. Adalina's full-sister, Miranda J. (both were daughters of Thomas Hardister Tennant & Christine Hacker) married Andrew J. Pyeatt. My reference for Adalina's marriage is a Pyeatt family Bible. My reference for Miranda & Andrew's marriage is Deane Carter's Marriage records of Washington County, Arkansas: a 25-year record, published by the Washington Co. (Ark.) Historical Society in 1966. Adalina's half-sister, Henrietta "Nettie" Josephine (whose mother was Clarissa White) married Peter C. Pyeatt. The reference for Henrietta & Peter's marriage is Washington County Arkansas marriage books D-E-F-G-H-I. All marriages and their children were confirmed via the 1850 census records for Cane Hill, Washington County, Arkansas. Andrew & Miranda were still in Cane Hill in 1870, but moved on to Justice Precinct #6, Bell Co., Texas by 1880 & then were in Precinct #1, Jones Co., Texas in 1900. 3. Thanks for your message David. The info I have on John Nelson PIATT is based on his death certificate and the info was given by his son. John Nelson d in Sugar Creek, Ohio April 26, 1930 and is b in Rock Hill Cemetary. DOB on death certificate is Sep 26, 1850. However on tombstone (also erected by his children) DOB is 1846. Additionally, if the GAR marker is there correctly there were between 7 - 11 John PIATT's served in Civil War, one of whom was 18 yrs of age and served 90 days. Your John would not have been old enough for Civil War, would he? Regards, Carolyn

    2. Hey Carolyn, I am sure you will have more cousins welcoming you to the list. Yes, I have info on your family. However, it is interesting that I have John H. Piatt b: abt 1855 and married a Jane. His father was William Piatt and mother was Ella Keen. His father was James Piatt Jr. and mother was Catherine Moffett. His father is James Piatt Sr. and mother is Nancy Coleman. These two are my 5 Great Grandparents. I have plenty of information on your family and the Piatt family going all the back to Rene Piatt, the emigrant from Dauphine, France. He was born around 1650 and died in 1705 in NJ. If you do a search on the genforum for any individual there is quite a bit of discussion and information that you can pull. Nancy Maxwell and Laverne Piatt are both wonderful researchers and can provide extensive information on the Piatt Families. Can you give me information on you line.....siblings, spouses, dates, places.....etc.... Siblings I have for John are: James, Lorenzo Dow, Benjamin, Richard Harvey, Catherine, Lizzie, and Ella. Sorry this is quick but I have to go.......I hope to hear from you soon. Later Cuz, David Eckert

    3. I am new to list and am researching my husband's line PIATT. Husband's father: Thomas Lester Piatt b. 1893 Belmont County, Ohio to John Nelson Piatt and Tacey Jane Blackledge Piatt. John's death certificate states dob 1850, tombstone has 1846. There is a GAR marker on the grave site. On John's death certificate father is listed as William Piatt b Ohio and his mother is Mary Keen b. Ohio. This is all the info I have. Not easy doing research from deep south but Historical Society in Columbus great help. Any info or guidance would be appreciated. Carolyn
